So i am custom fitting a new rad (differs from the original) and i need to fix two brackets to the body to take some of the weight at the bottom (its also supported at the top).
My instinct is to drill clean exact M8 holes and bolt straight through using nylon lock nuts, and spread the load using 38mm washers.

Thoughts gents ?

I use masking tape to cover any area im going to drill into to the glass, i would bond large washers to the areas of load.
Remember to measure twice drill once

I'd be tempted to use a length of metal the width of the rad instead of washers on the f/glass side. That would spread the load better

Washers will be fine, just get the larger penny ones, it's all I use on the racer, and that takes more of a beating than any road car will.

Im doing the Cosworth Rad conversion. Using the original mounts with a piece of angle across the bottom of the new rad with mini exhoust mounts, no holes need drilling in the body as the original ones are fine.
will post a pic when I get a free moment.

Gav, had to revamp mine years and years ago, when I replaced the rad. The main weight support fixings are the two at the top that face inwards through the front part of the nose where it meets the bonnet. I just drilled slightly larger holes and put larger bolts and washers. The two bottom supports (a couple of plastic gromits poking through the under valance fibre glass) are only there to stop it vibrating to and fro.

Cheers Roger and clive.

I am using those holes but have custom built bracketry as the rad is different from my old one.

New rad is bigger and looks "up for the job" (i am hoping it will do a better job than the old one).
I am having a "housing" (threaded) added for a modern type otter switch (old system seems weak and flawed to me) as off the shelf types will be easy to get hold of.

This way i can get the new rad (used/second hand) pressure tested and flushed while the housing is being welded on.

My old fans had been wired permanently on, and the old rad giving up may have been a blessing in disguise as this was obviously done to skip around a problem.
