how to sell a private plate
Discussion
going to put a private plate on the 'bay. it's on retention but what do i do? just sell it & send the buyer the retention document that's in my name?
do i need to pay the £25 nominee fee then send it off or just leave that up to them?
just a bit concerned about selling something that is in my name i guess....

When I have listed plates on ebay I have always added within the listing that to the final price I will add £80 to refund me the assignment fee that I have already paid, and that they will need to also pay DVLA £25 to add themselves as a Nominee.
When sold I simply sign the certificate in all the required places and post it off to them.

So I should add £80 on to the final price? How complicated can this be? When sold I simply sign the certificate in all the required places and post it off to them.

I've advertised the plate stating that they will need to pay the £25 nominee fee.
I was planning on just pocketing the cash & sending them the form with my signature in the box so they could fill it in themselves?

If you do that they will have to send it to DVLA to add/change the nominee but it will then come back to you because you can not change the address.

I'm selling a plate on ebay exactly as you describe. My blurb says that on payment I'll send off the form to the DVLA and change the nominee details to their name, then when it is returned to me I will post it off to them. Easy.
Also I gave an all in price, adding 80 here and 25 there will just confuse someone, just state an all in price allowing for the £25 name change. Easy too!
I also state that they then have until the certificate expires to put it on a car, any reminders will come to me but I will not be responsible for renewing or reminding them to renew in a year or so.
Personally I think you'll end up paying another 25 to renew the certificate before selling, a month is not enough. Send it off now and you'll get a 13 month certificate back.
