Has anyone ever retro fitted a manual gearbox to a mid 80's V12 XJ? I want to fit one to mine and was wondering how much, what to look for and any pitfalls one needs to avoid. I'm looking to take it racing etc in the very distant future (when my wife lets me spend some cash..)

If I get another V12 (should say when, not if) one of my priorities will be to junk that antique 3 speed TH400 and let the V12 live the way it's supposed to, i.e. with more than 3 speeds!

This guy has a good name: http://www.thedrivenman.com/index.htm and offers complete kits though he's in the USA.

In the UK KWE Engineering offer manual conversions for about 6 grand and I just nicked this link from the XK manual conversion thread: http://www.xkrt.co.uk/

Not cheap but the difference it'll make to the car would be incredible.

Thanks for the HeadsUp

This is something that's been a few years in the making, the problem being fooling the XK8/R ECU to still run

Roll on the next few weeks untill mine is on the road

Hi,yes i have, well a series 2 but its the same thing.my gearbox came from an xjs 4 speed 75-79 car.very easy .gear box cost between 700 -1200 pounds, you need to use the manual floor extention were the grear lever comes through the floor,i used the manual series 2 pedel box,the manual box cross member, used the old prop shaft not sure if you can coz your auto box is the turbo 400 unit.you will need a spigot bearing to go in the end of the crank and a fly wheel.the only part i had made was the hydrolic flexie pipe from the master cilinder to the slave cilinder. done. this convertion is fantastic even the speedo is correct.
