Hi,

I have a problem where my passenger side window was stuck fully in the down position. After a bit of searching on here I was able to test the motor by connecting directly to the motor a 12v battery.

This allowed me to wind the window both up and down.

I've reconnected the cable and then found that I could use the switch to wind down the window but not to wind it back up.

Can anyone help with my fault finding? It looks like I might need to remove the transmission tunnel to get at the wiring is this a big job?

Swap the switches and see if the problem moves to the other side smile

Forgot to mention I was just heading out to do that. biggrin

I swapped the switches and the problem didn't move to the other side, thought bugger this is going to be tricky to fix.

Put the switch back and it started working !! very happy biggrin

Fiddle with the bundle of wires between the body and door whilst having your finger on the window switch.sounds like a pinched wire in the bundle.

If full volts at the motor works (ie the battery), you must be dropping some volts in the wiring between the car battery and the motor. This will be poor wiring joint contacts or worn switch contacts but could also be a pinched wire as others have said. You could try running each wire separately from the battery to the motor and using the existing switch to connect the other and see which improves things. That would maybe narrow it down to one of the wires.

My money is still on the switch. I had the same symptoms on my V8S. Sometimes it worked sometimes not. I would replace the switch as a matter of course. The contacts in these switches are tiny and the window motors draw a lot of current, especially when the window runner felt lining gets a bit bald and the lifter mechanism gets a bit stiff.

In the end I devised a relay mod so the switches do not take all ther load. Much better now.
