I hope to be starting the hunt for a 997 very shortly, I have a budget up to £30k and I really want to buy the best available. I was considering using a specialist to source the car for the right price but I feel that I would be paying for legwork I can do myself, and that I should just get a PPI done unless it is from a well known independent.

This would be a dream purchase so I need to get it right, just at this time private sales seem to offer such good value but none of the security.

If it was your money what would you do? Are there mint 997's available for under £30k? I looked at a £40k car in an OPC the other day (prepared) just out of interest and it was in quite a bad way!

Not really sure what the question is, sorry. But I think you're looking for any 997 for £30k. Then as usual, trawl the ads until you find the one that meets your ideal spec at that price, go and have a look, then commission a PPI on it, regardless of whether it's at a dealer or private. If all clear, you have a new car. If not, make a judgement and negotiate from there if its still worth having. If its not, your search continues. Hope that helps a little. Good luck!

Yes, has been for some time now. You'll probably even find some good 'S's have dipped below £30k now.

That is intresting as I think it is the other way just now, I think the gap between a good indy & the private sale price is getting closer.

I would get a PPI done regardless of where the car is coming from.
A good bargaining tool and gives a great insight into what the car is like, further than what the polished exterior will tell you.
