I have just sold my E92 M3, so I am now looking for a gt3 rs 07+
As I have zero experience with these cars, I am hoping to get some advise on buying,
Anything in particular I should watch out for?
Things to avoid?
Thanks in advance

Disagree with the above. RS will always be a RS...and yes younger cars are more advanced and usually quicker, but not in the average Joe's hands, my case really.

And hence i'm all for the RS - love mine. Superbe machine, can handle anything.

Only advice: buy on condition, regular maintenance over lowh mileage anytime! Regular use is best for those beast rather than garage queens.

One or two things of interest.

(1) The 7RS.1 was the last model to be produced with no stability control, whereas this is standard on the RS.2. So, if you thrash it, it will bite back more quickly.

(2) The RS.1 is a very low car . I am on my fourth splitter. Any sort of steep ramp will cause you to scrape the thing. On the RS.2 I have an optional front lift that raise the car to tolerable levels for bumps and parking. It is only operable up to 30 km/h.

(3) I have had a couple of friends with premature clutch wear, so check the clutch for normal travel

(4) As others have said their is no difference in performance between the base GT3 and the RS.1 Therefore, the difference is rarity and colour. If you want Viper Green, then...it' an RS. I was aware of this and went for the RS anyway. No regrets. The RS.2 is however a bit quicker and better handling than the GT3.

(5) The PS Cups wear out fairy quickly so be aware that you will not get the sort of life you get on regular tires. They are also not great in heavy rain.

(6) The RS.1 has open intakes at the front and its easy to damage oil cooler or just clog things up in there. I fitted aftermarket grilles the week after I bought the car. Not a problem on the RS.2

A standard GT3 even a 7.2 might not suit everyone's tastes, especially if the hardcore drivers feel is required. I thought the 7.2 GT3 felt too civilised for my liking. Would be great as a focused every day car, but I'd actually prefer the RS especially as I love the feel of the lightweight flywheel for heel and toeing. Just my own preference of course smile

Those two letters are the magic.

We can all argue that 997.1 GT3 is as fast, the 997.2 faster...but guess what it doesn't have them.

Like I said earlier, plenty of other faster cars, let's not even mention the GT-R...

But in the long term those two little letters will make the difference.

All that extra noise from the perplex rear window, the clattering single fly cutch, etc. add so much more to the experience.

RS def worth the extra 10/20kGBP in my opinion.

A Gen 2 GT3 is significantly better than a gen 1 RS in almost every way. A much better all round buy.

Having owned both I couldn't disagree more. No real drving difference between the cars, especially on track. If you want a raw experience then the 996RS is the car. Amazing thing. The only car I regret selling

In my opinion (and that's all it is) is that the sentiments of the thread are bang on.
A 997.2 GT3 is far and away the better car. 997.1RS is marketing led BS.
It you must have an RS badge go 996 or stretch to a 997.2.
If your budget was what landed you at the 7.1RS then forget the RS badge and go for the newer car.
If its the 997.1 that appeals get a regular GT3 version. Add on some better shocks if you get into track driving and your car will be perfect.

There's many options for getting into the GT3 range. I don't personally see why any of them would be a 997.1 RS

.
You get that in the tea leaves?
Who knows what will happen, but it's the only GT3 model that garners such a mixed response. My tea leaves tell me that it's already being judged unfavourably (but accurately) and time will only increase it.

If anyone has a 997.1RS and it's giving them enjoyment from driving it then that's all that really matters right.
The world would be a dull place if folk only liked 1 thing.

There is no logical case that can be made considering the cars' capabilities unless you own an RS or are the ultimate badge victim.

You need to consider what you are going to use the car for.

If you want a focused track car you should buy a 996RS but they are not great on anything other than a track.

The 997.1RS is a good car, quicker than the 996RS, easier to drive, good on both road and track but not as focused as the 996RS.

The 997.2RS is another step up, more power, shorter gear ratio's but also lots of small improvements that make it a much nicer car overall.

I've had all three of the above cars, missing my 996RS

Just reading this thread with interest... Feels like the 997.2 GT3 could be the last of its kind in some ways, given all the faff about emissions, etc.

What sort of ££ is needed to buy a decent example at the moment ?
