Rover P5 import from NZ
Discussion
Hi,
I've owned a rover p5 for about 16 years in NZ, it was originally UK registered and then imported to there in the early 1970s. I've lived in the UK for 10 years and my brother in NZ has been using my car. However, we have now lost the storage space for it so I either need to sell it in NZ or maybe bring it over here. Does anyone know how easy it is to import a classic car into the UK? This one is slightly modified with a 5 litre engine, manual 'box and LPG.
Thanks,
Simon

Can't help much, but the fact it has been registered here before should make things much easier. No taxes should be due and it could get its old reg back. Do you have any documents related to the original registration. I have a feeling the DVLA records from that far back are a bit erratic.
In the unlikely event there are problems with reimporting back to the UK (with DVLA), there are ways of getting it back on the road.
Initially I would leave it on NZ plates.
Obtain the build date from British Motor Industry Heritage Trust, MOT on VIN plate, take to DVLA office, tell them you want to use car on UK roads and the UK plates are missing. They will either give you the old plates or an age related one.
