Might go look at a v6 Vectra SRI tomorrow... For no reason other than its cheap and the same on the insurance as my 1.6 megane coupe. It would drink more petrol yes but who cares its MOAR POWER!!!

Anything i should look out for in particular? Its got just over 100k on it and seems like the service history is a bit sketchy but the current owner has serviced regularly since he owned it.

Cheers in advance!

Coil pack (underneath the inlet manifolds) can and do pack up. Other than basic service stuff I think they're reasonably reliable.

Get a decent exhaust on these and they sound amazing.

Check for rust, ensure cambelt has been done (HAS to be done at 40,000) I had one last year, replaced exhaust with stainless steel one (with no silencers!) and it sounded awesome!!!

They do sound good with a decent exhaust on them, but they are not as fast as you might expect a 2.5L V6 to be. They are pretty cool though, even though Vauxhall were "st" at the time, in the eyes of most.

I loved mine, great car, but the documentation suggested a cambelt change 3K miles before I got it, only for it to snap after 6 or 7K, make sure it's done.

Yeah i'l take a good look at it, may even change it anyway just to be safe as the owner can't prove when it was changed.

How much more expensive is a 2.5 or 3.0 X-Type Jag?

That was my only real issue with it, but I was 18 when I had it, was great for pulling me and a bunch of mates around the country in relative comfort with loads of camping gear.

Buy the 3.0 then!

It's actually a decent drivers car. AWD with 60% of torque to the rear wheels - 231 Bhp - 0-60mph in 6.6 secs. I did over 60,000 miles in mine!

Which 2.5l V6 saloons are much faster for this cash?

I know 2 people who have had these, both had the cam belts done, both had the cam belt slip and fire the pistons into the head writing the engine (and subsequently) the car off....

Sorry I can't help with the question as my vectra only needed tyres & servicing. Go for the GSI if possible as it made more power than the SRI & it looks nicer.

my old car sold in 2006
