Boxster - not bonding, what should I do?
Discussion
So, I've just bought my second Porsche a 987 a week ago after owning a 993 a few years ago..
Was hoping getting back into a Porsche would put a smile back on my face but I'm feeling a bit underwhelmed at the moment... The money could be better used elsewhere and I guess I don't actually *need* a Porsche.
Should I hold out in the hope I grow to love it or just look to ship it on when the weather picks up and put it down to experience.
Am I mad?

Why am I underwhelmed? A bit tricky to answer - I guess without getting too philosophical perhaps it was the thought of owning another Porsche and all that means in terms of sense of achievement etc. that was behind the decision.
Don't get me wrong, it is a great car... I just don't sit in it and think 'wow' like I did with the first one!

It sounds like you have bought it for the wrong reasons. Sell it and move on.Don't get me wrong, it is a great car... I just don't sit in it and think 'wow' like I did with the first one!

The Boxster doesn't have the curb appeal of the 911, its just not rare enough or 'special' enough. So its going to be tricky to feel wow after having a 993.Don't get me wrong, it is a great car... I just don't sit in it and think 'wow' like I did with the first one!
But, have you had chance to take it for a long drive on some fast twisty A-roads?? I think this is really when the Boxster really comes into itself. The speed you can carry through the bends, the way it flows, the predictable handling - that's why I love my S.

Difficult, the old air cooled Porsches were special just to look at and get into, the 987 is a super package - it's an ideal touring car IMO, with masses of luggage space, the roof, nice power and braking.Am I mad?
If you don't actually have a use for it however - that will cause a lack of interest, you can always buy a 987, it's a real buyers market.
So I'd hang on and use it in the summer for what it's best as - a convertible to do some trips in. Then you'll like it!

PCGB sell more 911s than BoxstersBut, have you had chance to take it for a long drive on some fast twisty A-roads?? I think this is really when the Boxster really comes into itself. The speed you can carry through the bends, the way it flows, the predictable handling - that's why I love my S.
It will be used (daily driver) and is a top spec so not too worried about shipping it on... But I think the rarity factor has got something to do with it. I remember when I picked up my 993 a random stranger took a picture of it when I was sat at the first lights I had to stop at... Boxsters just don't have that same aura. Going to give it another week, should have a chance for a proper blast next weekend.

Welcome to the world ! Very few modern cars have that aura, even the expensive ones. For me, it takes something in the order of a zonda f to get that same incredible feeling of awe. Look back in the past and just a basic elan s4 sprint, a 1.6 205 GTi in laser green, a beautiful white E type or a humble mini cooper will be special. Older car just hum with emotion.mollytherocker said:

Boxsters are for driving and not for posing. Very few people will admire you for owning one. Got the odd Mondeo rep trying to race me at the time I had my first boxster. Lots of positive feedback on my current 7.2 GT3 though. Even had a stranger (in a 996) doing research to find out my e-mail address just to congratulate me on the sound it made at traffic lights where he saw me...TheAardvark said:

I bought a 987 not long after they first came out. One sunny day me and my BiL went on a long sunny drive down to the South Coast to a Porsche meet.I was surprised when I arrived to be directed to a Porsche only parking area on the grass (Porsche ownership was all new to me) and we left the car with the roof down next to a line of 993s.
We wandered around awhile, looked at some awesome cars, had something to eat and eventually went to return to my car.
There was a massive crowd around my car and being suspicious and a Londoner, who has to deal with leaving cars left on the street, I rushed forward fearing something had happened to my new pride and joy.
The crowd were just admiring my car. I was a bit overwhelmed, especially as no one was looking at the 993s, which I love btw.
