Aircraft with three tail fins

I was in the garden this afternoon and an old aircraft came over very slow and low heading in the direction of Biggin Hill. It looked about six to eight seated, had spindly fixed under carriage and three tail fins. Come on chaps, what did I see?

No it looked smaller and much older than that, I'm guessing 1930's.

TYhat's the same Miles Messenger as the previous picture. It's been incorrectly captioned.

It certainly wouldn't be big enough to carry eight people.

That's our boy! He was flying into a fantastic sunset, I wasn't envious at all, maybe we should start another thread...... Swapping rides in Cars for rides in aircraft, I could never afford to have both hobbies and I'm never sure I made the right choice!
