Passed an original Mini on the A1(M) yesterday loaded up with 5 lads! Rear arches scrapping the wheels and looked ridiculously small on the outside, sardines on the inside! Thumbs up as I passed it about to attempt a long slow climb biggrin

5 of us in a volvo 850 saloon (including a weeks worth of luggage) from rural Northumberland all the way down to St Ives (in one go)

We were practically paraplegic when we got out, but the car had no problem cruising at 80+ leptons the whole way.

Did that years ago, 5 of us about 18 at the time went for a lads week away in Devon (from the Midlands), 5 up plus luggage for a week, max 65 mph on the downhill bits and slipstreaming 40 tonners on the uphills. That was in a mini btw. Happy days.

It struggled less with that than when it was 4 of us, but 2 of them were prop forwards at a combined 40 stone hehe

Most Minis won't have any seatbelts in the rear, therefore you can put as many in as will fit. wink

How is that even possible? you wouldn't even fit 6 kids in the back let alone 6 adults

They certainly did from at least the mid 80s onwards.

I had one for three years and we used to squeeze five of us into that every lunchtime to go to the local supermarket for lunch. Would occasionally scrape the arches though.

We used to fit 10 of us (plus our dog) in an Allegro Estate (3 door) back in the day. Usually only for a short trip to the beach when we used to 'holiday' in Devon with my Aunt, Uncle and their kids.

Car was a 1.3Litre and would never make it back up from the beach, so half of us walked up the hill, to give the car a break before we clambered on board again........ Happy days!

Had 8 people in my metro when i first passed my test, drove off the downs, scraping and sparking all the way down. Stopped behind the village bobby to let everyone pile out.

Once had 5 in my Mini, that has rear seatbelts and legally, should only carry 4. Oops!

My first car was a Fiat Cinquecento899cc, and because I was one of the oldest in my year and thus the first to pass my test it regularly featured 5 up to Rugby/footsie matches with kit bags etc..then, pub crawls etc. mate who had an ancient mini used to get it picked up and turned against car doors regularly, he took to hiding it eventually and for some inexplicable reason insisted on wearing a purple beanie to drive it. Great days in the 6th form with some comedy cars..lucky to have come through formative driving years relatively unscathed really

Pah! Try 5 up in an 850 T5 Saloon going from Chester Le Street to Paris and back again in a little over 27 hours. Fresh as a daisy and the car never missed a beat, including some naughty speeds on the French Motorways heading back to Calais

I once travelled from Aberdeen to Lanark as one of two people in the back of an MGB GT, not nice.

My first car was a Peugeot 204 Break which often carried up to 10 in far greater comfort...

There isn't even 3 seats! Someone sat in the middle will be sat on a hump that the seatbelt latches poke out of. Very uncomfortable

Gave four girls a lift in my Mini a few months ago, was quite comical - the suspension normally let me (on my tod or one-up) go over speed bumps at a normal rate, but even at 10mph I could hear the wheels scraping! Certainly got some odd looks when five people clambered out of a Mini - when we eventually got to our destination! Bear in mind these were girls, so of course they didn't weigh anything...
