Good morning, I like to be able to leave my soft top car on the drive, and a neighbours cat then likes to sit on it. This leaves paw prints all over my car and cat hair all over my roof, I know nothing about cats so was wondering if there was anything I could put on the roof that would cause damage or a smell to me but would put the cat off. Have no idea who's cat it is and not sure what they would be able to do about it if I did, so any thoughts greatly appreciated.

An old wives remedy is to cover the material with urine. This should piss of the cat.

I had the same problem with my 306 cabriolet some years ago, neighbours cat liked to sleep on the roof, my granny suggested that a 2l bottle filled with water on the roof should stop the hairy bd from ruining the roof. She was right.

Not sure that I will be dabbling in watersports on my roof, no idea what the second option is, and get the feeling a dog on my roof will not really solve the problem. Thanks for the ideas though!

Did wonder about itching powder but the could be an issues as roof gets rolled up to he taken off meaning some would get on inside of roof, and am not a good enough shot to be confident of missing the car.

Bottle of water seems like a mental idea but guess I can see the logic.

Don't cats hate orange peels or is that another wives tale?

I do think you can get stuff to spray that cats hate the smell of to protect your garden and stuff. Garden centres or a visit to B&Q might be an idea but you'd have to make sure it doesn't do any damage to your roof.

There's a guy who lives near me that puts a toy cat on his roof. That alleviates the problem apparently.

What about a powerful super soaker.

If you miss, no biggie. Hopefully cat gets message.

Just buy a brush, simples.
It works for me, one of my cats sits on my softtop, a nice brush and it's as good as new.
Bird crap is far far worse.

Anything citrus should work, perhaps combined with the super soaker idea..supersoaker full of lemon juice?

Yes, spraying acid on your soft top should stop the harmless cat fur.

With regards to just getting a brush, my sister has a cat and after seeing it stretch out and claw the carpet I really don't want it doing this to my roof, which is why I want it off.
Thinking some kind of spray which doesn't smell to me would be the best solution, although I would like to see how much lion st costs!

The orange peel is an old wifes tale. My neighbour tried it to dissuade my cats from his garden, it didn't work.

Best solution for me is to buy yourself a super soaker. Get a decent quality one with good range. Pump it to the max and fire away.
Its also quite enjoyable.
You dont have to stop there, carry on shooting at neighbours you dont like, children in the street etc and shout the word 'rampage' as you do it.

Edit: its already been mentioned... I've done it in the past and it works

My friends had a rogue cat coming into their house and eating their own cats food and terrorising it. They set the cat flap to keep it in, then locked it in a room for hours, put in a bucket of water then let it go.
They never saw it again

I didn't say it'd be good for the car, but you won't have the cat problem any more biggrin

The bottle of water idea will work. Well, at least it did with our garden.
