Finally got round to sorting out my starter motor issue. Got it off (pig of a job), cleaned up, checked for anything obvious and now it's time to put it back on.

Thing is, I can't quite remember what goes where. Specifically the braided copper connection from the solenoid:

I'm guessing from the solder on the other two that they're for the live/earth from the battery.

Does that look about right?

Looks about right, it won't work if it isn't smile

Other big one is for the live frOm the battery and one of the small ones will be the exciter from the ignition. It should earth through the block iirc.

Can always bench test it first if you aren't sure.

Not really very helpful but can you tell us make/model or engine type if off the 7? Are there any markings?

I find my manuals very helpful at times like these smile

Engine is a 1.8 K Series. There's a sticker on the starter stating it's a Bosch and the number:

0986 018 240

(12v 1.4kw)

Thanks chaps.

Braided one just goes to starter motor, I assume it is already? Other large connection is main power lead from battery, small one is switched live from ignition. How many spare wires have you got hanging down there anyway?

Perhaps I didn't phrase my question very well. I know the braided wire goes to the starter, I was just checking it was connected to the correct terminal on the solenoid.

Ah. In which case it probably doesn't matter as long as it's on one of the big ones.

I doubt it'll be fussy - the job of the solenoid is just to connect the two big terminals together like a switch. Looks like it's on the right terminal anyway.

Braided lead can go to either of the large terminals and the heavy battery lead
to the other one ignition switching to the small lug.
