which 4 point harness?

I`m fitting a bar across the back of the rollcage in the sag to be able to fit a pair of 4 point harness`es, the question is which ones to buy, they are so many brands to chose from all at varying prices.

also some have the 4 straps going into a central quick release buckle, and others have the 2 shoulder straps attatched to the waist straps giving a click buckle? one left, one for the right side...........hope that makes sense

would like to know peoples experiences with these, the seats are the tuscan ones, so imaging the webbing can be a bit uncomfortable either side of the neck, especially if using the central quick release buckle arrangement, also, do they all come a set lenght, long enough to go over the bar behind the seats and down to the seatbelt anchor points in the bottom of the car?

The ones the the shoulder and lap belt connected tend to be only 2" straps. To my mind if your going to put in a 4/5 point harness do it properly with 3" straps and a centre buckle.

My preference is willans. Uk made and will do custom length if needed. We buy quite a lot from them for all the cars we do do could probably get a discount if you went that way g

thanks Graham, I was unsure of the 3" wide ones as the width under the headrest on the tuscan seats is only about 6" anyway and thought they would rub on your neck more than the 2" ones.

Mark, I've got the same seats as yours. Love them. How did you get the gnad straps through the bottom of the seat on the 6 points you have? Did you just cut slits into the seat pad, or is the hole down in the space between the seat pad and the 'back of the legs' part of the seat? Cheers.

intersting pics there Sagriff, your shoulder straps, are they crossed over behind the seat and anchored via the seat belt bolts in the floor? also the belts between your legs, where are these anchored?

yes had to cut through seat, going to get some nice stitching done around the slit, will look good when finished.

no have a harness bar fitted.

I'm having a four point harness made by Willans. Wrap around the harness bar for shoulder straps and bolt in lap belts on the seat frame. This combination is not possible to buy hence the custom ones from Willans. However they can be bolted to the chassis. You could also bolt them through the harness bar but prefer to loop them round myself

Harnesses with the single push button clip tend to be road legal and separate buckles are not as the law states you need to be able to unlock with one hand. Therefore depends whether you plan to use them on the road or track only.

Edited to add that I had to measure the harness lengths as saloon type harnesses are too long and the Caterham/Exige type harnesses were not long enough to reach round the harness bar.

Mine are the same as above (wrap around Harness bar and bolt in seat frame) and came out of a AJP8 Racing Tuscan Challenge Car and they have Twist release which I prefer, also still have the standard seatbelt fitted for road use as you wouldn't want to use full harness for the road.

If its any help i run a bar and a set of 4 point scroth similar to sargriff set up in my 350,and in the Griff a set of willians, no comparison really the scroth ones just scream quality and have the wider strap thus give greater comfort, i just have the scroth ones wrapped round the ally bar which seems to work really well with no rattling as with the eyes in the griff. so just to clarify, wrapping the strap around the bar behind the seat, is the strap endless so you can un-thread the bolt on anchor plate supplied with the harness, and then wrap the strap over the bar and back through the adjuster buckle? or are the straps through the anchor plates stitched on?

It depends on the type of harness and the length of the straps. There are two types of wrap around harnesses for the shoulder straps. The first is a threaded loop where you wrap round the harness bar and
thread back through the adjuster buckle and the second is a stitched loop. Obviously with the stitched
loop you have to remove the harness bar to install/remove the harness.
