Drove a gto today
Discussion
Hard to believe really but 3 years of owning my M400 and it was the only noble I'd driven.
Today went and looked at a blue gto 2.5 as it was advertised in the local paper for £14500. Thought it would make a good every day road car as the M400 is now moving towards track only work.
It was surprisingly good but totally different experience to the 400. The gearshift was very smooth but heavy and the 5 speed ratios felt really good. The most noticeable thing was the noise, the air filters were on the bulkhead and it sounded great, a long drive and it might end up a bit irritating though.
Obviously theres is the small matter of being about 250-300bhp down on my car but that aside it was great fun, sadly there was a list of mot advisorys that I wasn't too impressed by and I noticed quite a lot of things which needed attention, add to that the fairly thin history for a 10 year old car and it's not for me even at that price.
Came away from it wishing I had the money to throw at it to get another one back in good nick on the road but also big time delighted by how good and solid it made my car feel!

That noise never gets annoying, I love it.MOT issues I personally wouldn't be worried about, but LSD, ECU, TDS would be my main concerns the rest are upgrades that are not to expensive (Fans,Pump, Exhaust etc).
Once ECU is sorted then 370-380 you can get without doing anything else.
Where is this as my mate might be interested?

The ECU has just been done at emerald and can be switched between 3 settings. Also a new loom fitted and cobra alarm this month.
Original gearbox broke and was replaced with the same 5 speed box and diff, not that he knew, only because I looked through the few receipts he was given.
He didn't know much about the car even after 3 years of ownership, so I assumed there was no TDS.
The advisories were for quite a few suspension bushings, handbrake and both front brakes needed attention, an oil leak and a couple others
It's located in Inverurie near Aberdeen.

Funnily enough I spotted this Noble too - my Granddad in Aberdeenshire saw it in the P&J and called me......and actually remember I it from the Edinburgh scene mid Naughties.
It belonged to a chap called Dave from Edinburgh - or L6NEX as he was known on here. The Noble wore the same number too (if that helps with searches).
A very well sorted 2.5 at the time. It was colour changed from silver to the bespoke blue shade and a whole host of mods at the time (door handles removed with solenoids fitted, interior retrim, uprated turbos, intercooler and 19" wheels). Basically a stack of cash thrown at it.
I had a TVR Tuscan at the time and I recall this very car being in the central belt of Scotland.
I also remember that it was sold through Alan MacDonald Sports Cars just outside Edinburgh a few years back -so the chap up the North East would have probably bought from him.
I saw the car up for £15-£16k on the forecourt and thought even cheap at that point (maybe 2006 ish)
I know the rear spoiler was removed by previous owner so it looked a little "different"
Sure a few of the older posters would recall this exact car and various mods etc.

Yeah that's it, no rear spoiler on it but it's available with the car. Door handles removed etc, it's just the standard wheels though and the turbos were tiny, surely just the t25's. Showed running .6 bar on the gauge.
It needs a fair bit of work but has quite a few upgraded already and would make a good project for someone. Its just lacked a bit of love the past few years from what I saw and the history is all at garages I've never heard of on here. It NEEDS a trip to Jetstream for a overhaul.

Sounds like some of the tasty bits where / have been removed. Regardless at that money it's a good buy - and yes a wee trip to Dave and Matt at Jetstream would be a worthwhile exercise for the new owner.
I was quite tempted to go and take a look myself but my recent Range Rover purchase has knocked that on the head......
When the next Scottish meet Hollowpockets? I remember Iain saying he was trying to get a Spring one sorted after your boys last event in the Autumn
Cheers

Bondy - what would my standard GTO3 produce with no fettling if the ECU was tweaked by Yellowshed or someone like that?MOT issues I personally wouldn't be worried about, but LSD, ECU, TDS would be my main concerns the rest are upgrades that are not to expensive (Fans,Pump, Exhaust etc).

Not sure on a GTO 3 but Not many made the power they stated and were prob around 320-330. A remap will prob get you back to the 350. If you just change exhaust/fuel pump you could expect around 390ish with remap.mgbond said:

Your spot on, my standard gto3 was 325bhp on the rolling road. My blue gto3 that had the urban exhaust, pro alloy intercooler and fuel pump upgrade was a different car completely. Well worth doing in my opinion. Metalman said:

+1 - Very very spot on. Mine has 044 pump , Urban racing exhaust - 391bhp.mgbond said:

I think mine was measured at 330. Then it had a H&S exhaust and an M400 fuel pump, followed by a remap by YS and came out at 375. That was using different rolling roads however.Gadgeroonie said:
yes - it would not make sense to remap the car with stock boost
i suspect you will get nearer 350 bhp with stock boost and a small advance to the igntion
So in summary Gadge, you think that my stock GTO3 could benefit from a remap then?i suspect you will get nearer 350 bhp with stock boost and a small advance to the igntion
I need more power as my brother has just had his Evo 6 extreme RS450 remapped and come back with 385bhp and 410 lb ft torque! that will be tough to match!
