Hi All

I have been given an opportunity to acquire a mk1 Eunos in a few months it's in great nick and has been owned by a friend so I should be able to get it at a bargain price. I plan on keeping it garaged for a little while whilst I get it properly serviced and change a few bits. Will only use it at the weekend afterwards.

I'll probably cover far less than 4000miles a year and I wonder if anyone knows of anywhere that offers classic car/limited mileage insurance for them? It is a 1992 car so is getting on now!

Cheers

Daz

I've had mine on a limited mileage policy with Hagerty for the last couple of years. They have a modern classic policy with a 3k limit and have always been very easy to deal with. I've only moved to Adrian Flux this year as I wanted a higher mileage limit (5k).

OK great I'll give that a try. May I ask how much you were paying? I paid £110 p/a on the Spit 5k inc Track Days but I doubt I'll get such a good deal.

I have mine insured through Chaucer (through heritage). My policy is under 2K miles PA and is very reasonable (i intend to use it purely as a track car.... annoyingly alot of my permitted mileage will be on said tracks, even though the policy would not cover for an accident in those situations).
1.6's were about £100 PA cheaper than 1.8 policys. Very little difference between Roadster and MX5 prices.

Kazman, quick question.....

I 'm currently insured with Hagerty too, on a 3k PA mileage limit, and have just done a track day in my MX5, which is what I primarily purchased it for.
A classic policy is quite good (and cheap) but now I want to add coilovers to the car to get the best out of it but am thinking the insurers won't like it.

Tricky situation really. Does anyone know of any classic policy providers which look upon this stuff favourably?

If its cost prohibitive, I may well hold off doing the suspension as I only do around 750 miles a year and this is a 3rd car.

I'm with Haggerty as well. Good bunch of people.

At last renewal I asked what the deal was with a s/s exhaust I was thinking of fitting. They said fine, just let us know what you have done, we won't charge anymore for it.

Thats handy to know. I just bought a S/S rear box from MX5 parts which will be fitted in the next few days.
I will ring them and get them to add it.
(I did tell them I was going to fit a roll bar when I got the car and they were happy with that, but I haven't got round to doing it yet)
Maybe they are more flexible than I was thinking.

Sorry to hikack thread.

Footman James gave me a good price last year, they don't mind modifications either, and you can get an agreed value.

Good to know. I'm not sure how receptive my insurers are to mods. If the answer is "they are not", then i may well change to the insurer you are using!

Another happy Footman James customer - I went to them as I had previously insured my Caterham through them.

5000 miles limit at £180 with oc discount and European breakdown cover.

I have my '93 Mk1 on an Equity Red Star Classic policy through their own direct broker, RH Specialist Insurance. Mileage is limited to 5,000 miles per year and the policy includes SDP + Commuting, 3rd party cover for the policy holder for "borrowed" cars and UK breakdown and recovery cover. My annual premium has been £200 for the last three years, declared mods include S/S exhaust, adjustable coilovers and non-standard 15" alloy wheels.

Wifey has a 88 bhp mk1 Monza (poverty UK spec) on a classic policy with footman james. £170 IIRC and that's with me as a named idiot (points and accident on my history) 3000 mile limit.

Mine is through Lancaster. 6k miles per year. Zero ncb needed. Kept on the drive in an SS postcode. I'm 32 with no points and cover was £218 fully comp. My 5 is a JDM v spec.

Congrats on your buy. Look into AARP classic car auto insurance. They use The Hartford for auto insurance, which is a reputed company so you get good service at an affordable price.

Much cheaper than me although I think I am for 5000 miles. How old are you?
