Jaguar XF Sportbrake caught undisguised

Grainy shots unmask new estate XF ahead of Geneva debut

Continuing our theme of internet-based new car leaks (see also Ferrari 599 replacement...) these images of the new Jaguar XF Sportbrake have appeared, showing the new estate undisguised for the first time.

The estate version of the XF is due to make its official debut at the Geneva show early in March and is a crucial car for Jaguar as it will pitch it head to head with estate versions of the BMW 5 Series, Mercedes E-Class and Audi A6. It's also the first Jaguar estate since the controversial X-Type.

These images, which look as though they come from a scanned brochure, show a rear light configuration similar to that of the saloon's and appear to show a front end that's identical forward of the B-pillars.

There's also a subtle roof spoiler and Jaguar XJ-style blacked-out C-pillars.

Jaguar hasn't yet revealed exactly which engines we can expect to see, but it's a fairly safe bet that both the 2.2-litre four-cylinder and the two V6 diesels will take the lion's share of sales, though we'll hopefully see something V8-shaped as well.

As for an XFR estate, we wouldn't get our hopes up...

Jags designers really are on the ball, this will put BMW touring into its place.

I love everything about Jaguar's new design ethos. Gorgeous cars, that is, all except that bloody C pillar. If I were to buy one I think I'd have to colour code it to the car. Looks better there than on the XJ but still looks wrong.

Looks great! Just a shame people will still go for the 5 series as it will have much lower co2 emissions!

I hope Jag make a XF-R version, not because I would buy one (I can't afford one) but because I love the idea of high performance estate cars.

I agree, an R version would be superb.

You'd've though that an XFR estate would be forthcoming. It's not going to take much engineering now, is it, surely most of it has already been done.

I agree, don't much like the blacked C pillar on the XJ and not keen on it here either. The rest of it looks reasonably inoffensive.

Its a bit late isnt it?? The XF has been out for 5yrs already!! There was a slight mid life update last year but surely the model has only another 3yrs at the most left in it??

That's really smart. I think that this could fall into the rare category of "estates which look better than their saloon bases."
