I know what you mean! Especially at this time of year.

However stress Engineer in F1 = Engineer that is well versed in the use of FEA

Jokes aside... Generally they will be tasked with calculating and keeping track of loads through the car, then applying them to components designed by the design engineers using FEA or simple calcs. They can then advise the design engineer on how the part may be improved.

So just another part of the long list of engineers that do a reasonably small but complex and important job.
