More musings from me about what car to get next (I've had a few and I've been too picky and indecisive!)

I'm now thinking of something with practicality (for camping and holidays) but with performance. I'm kind of erring towards a B6 Audi S4 (4.2 V8) as I have a V8 itch to scratch but don't let that sway your recommendations. I've massively reduced my commute distance recently so no longer need to worry about fuel economy.
I'd rather not have a diesel, but a 335d (remapped naturally wink ) could work.

So... B6 Audi S4 or something else?

I'm thinking of getting a Clio 197 for the Mrs as she loves MY her 172

I could go for a fettled B5 S4 (V6) but we're getting a bit older and higher mileage (frequently over 100k).

I'm not put off by older cars.

S6 Avant (4.2 V8)? Cheaper to buy than the S4 V8, as they have been around longer. Seem to get a good review by owners on here.

You shouldnt rule out a 4x4, they are great for mounting curbs and blocking school gates

Am I missing something? Isn't the S4 4WD?

Good suggestion, I like them but I doubt my Wife will. I'll see.

My wife had a B5 S4 Avant. It really was a fantastic car. The only downside was it was a little hard riding on a long journey, but you forgave it that for the pure grunt afforded when driving spiritedly

I suspect you know what I mean silly

I see 4x4 as an offroad vehicle and 4WD/AWD like a Quattro, Impreza or the like. I know you were just splitting hairs though biggrin

I was in the same position and I got a high miles B7 S4 for £8250.

But that 545i is tempting

That seems like a very good price. How high were the miles?

Alfa 156 GTA, I have a soft spot for these after seeing/hearing one fly down a slip road!

Beautiful cars but there's something about Italian interiors that seems to date quickly!
