Pug 307 2L HDi Ignition lights on, no key?!
Discussion
I've just picked up a 307 that has the weirdest issues I've ever come across. The ignition turns itself on without a key in it, the lights all come on and will only go off when they decide or when the ignition key is turned to start the car then removed again. It has an after market stereo in it and I'm wondering if the power supply has been compromised by this? I've changed the ignition switch itself and it's still doing it.
Also, the fault computer unit on the dashboard has power to it and will illuminate the LCD's to say there's an anti-pollution fault (DPF) but the back light isn't working (checked the bulbs). I've read on numerous forums that the units get hot and blow the LCD but nothing to say why the back lights won't work. The LCD does work albeit you have to squint a bit to see it. Is this because the stereo is after market like lots of older models? I can't see why as there's power there to work the unit and the LCD's.
Doing the repairs as a favour for a friend and I'm pretty stumped. Any suggestions would be really helpful.
Thanks guys.

Thanks for the reply
but I found the route of the ignition fault. It turned out that the moron who installed the after market stereo decided to power the main battery supply and the remote power from the ignition with a scotch block.
He'd obviously found that the stereo would lose it's memory so rather than switch the red and yellow powered wires he joined them, as well as leaving a main feed from the cig lighter dangling loose behind the dash.
It was causing havoc with the time delayed courtesy light as the wiring was sending power just about everywhere it shouldn't. As soon as I'd disconnected the stereo the disco lights stopped flashing. That sorted the ignition fault but still can't get any power to the unit on top of the dash. I'm guessing that it uses a secondary supply from the stereo like a Vauxhall.
I just can't understand why the LCD works yet the back light doesn't.
Again, any advice would be greatly appreciated.
