Hi guys,

I recently purchased a Seat Leon Cupra (not the R frown ). We're talking <1month ago. It has since developed a really nasty CLUNK/BONG/DOING sound when turning on full or nearly full lock (either direction) irrelevant of speed. At the precise moment it first occurred the engine light came up on the dash (yellow rather than red meaning a sensor has spotted something amiss but not critical (I think?))

I'm after a bit of help really. I can go to Seat, which I more than likely will anyway in honesty but wanted some assistance regarding where I stand with the dealer. OK, so the car was only £2500, but I still wasn't expecting problems within 14 days. Once I've figured as to what this is going to cost, can I invoice dealer/reject car? Basically, where do I stand legally?
I'd happily keep the car. It's a low miler, but surely I shouldn't have to swallow this expense so shortly after purchase? If I obtained a good deal (which I may or may not have done), that should be an irrelevance to how the car performs within a set period of time, no?

Has anyone experience of what could be causing this cringeworthy noise. How is best to proceed with dealer and what do we think this might cost to put right?

Sorry for well and truely stomping over already well-trodden ground.
Any help is very much appreciated.

granted, a mechanic is the way forward for diagnostics.
I thought CV joint, too. It sounds similar to how a large compressed spring would sound if it slipped off whatever was compressing it, hence my concern. Just wondered if anyone else might have had the similar noise, what was wrong, and what it cost (i'm certainly no mechanic spin )

Take it back to the dealer you bought it from, you should have a warranty on the car. If you bought privately then you are on your own.

Very likely it is a broken coil spring. Same noise happened only few weeks after buying my Ibiza Cupra TDi. Turned out to be a broken front coil spring. Mine had 58,000 miles on the clock and VAG cars are quite common with coil springs going around the 60,000 miler mark. Luckily mine was covered under a warranty the garage supplied. I still had to pay for the other side to be replaced as I wanted them replaced in pairs.

If this is a possibility, you need to examine the inside tyre wall of the effected wheel. I had a spring break on my Berlingo van and the broken end scoured the tyre wall and knackered it.

If you get a torch u might even see where the spring has broke.

My astra made the same noise in the same situation. It was the suspension top mount bearing was to blame
