Cant say i've ever seen a blind bend on a dual carraigeway, i wouldnt worry if you were doing under 80 to be honest

You normally get the speed + 10% for points so at 75/80 ish clock speed doubt you would be doing a true 77mph+ so will probably get away with it to be honest smile

3 points and 60 quid. But you have a limit of 6 points for first 2 years I think, so you'll need to take it easy from now on.

Having said all this, if you were less than about 76 or 77 mph, it is unlikely they will do you IME

A blind corner cruising at 80mph??? Nice, well done.

In reality you may be lucky and the camera won't have clocked you if you were nearer 75 than 80mph.

3 points and £60 fine. But if your speedo showed 75-80 you were probably doing less so doubtful whether they'd bother.

Hey, I know this is in the wrong section of the forum but as I have only just created an account I cannot post in 'Speed, Plod & The Law'. Mods please move if you can.

Earlier on today I was approaching a blind corner on a dual carriage way cruising around 75/80 when I spotted a speed camera van tucked in on the side with its rear doors open and the tripod/camera on full display. I passed my test 4 months ago and currently have a clean license, will i get a ban or just 3 points & a fine. Any advice would be much appreciated, Mills.
75/80 indicated? I'd imagine nothing, as while you may have been over 70 you were almost certainly under the threshold speed for the camera, unless the vans trigger at 71 not 79.

In the IMO unlikely event that you did get snapped, it would be 3 points and a fine plus driving like a granny for the next 20 months so you don't pick up another 3 and get your licence rescinded. Even if you are 17, a ban for less than 10 over on a DC is something I've never heard of. The New Drivers Act is the only thing you really have to worry about.

If you were actually speeding 3 points and a fine. Your speedo may say you are driving at 75mph but in reality you were more than likely doing a true 70-72mph.

IIRC the police give a 10% leeway on the speed anyway for the inaccuracys of speedos.

You have 2 weeks to worry about weather a NIP will land on your doormat. After that they cant prosecute you.

My first speeding ticket after 29 yrs of driving was for 80mph on the "A48 motorway" that the M4 extends into in Dyfed, Wales. £60 fine plus 3 points but took the speed awareness course to keep clean.

So, now cruise control is bang on 77 and not 80ish as before.

Moral of the story.......you can still be done for 80 on a dual carriageway/motorway.

I suspect the OP is referring simply to not being able to see the open road around the corner (hence why the scamera was parked there).

As others have said, your indicated 75-80 will be more like 70-75 and you're unlikely to get a ticket for that. Most insurance companies don't care about <6 points so I'd really not worry about it.

2 weeks + 3 days to be completely in the clear. The NIP only has to be dated within the 2 week period and the day of the offence doesn't count. Plus, factor in 2 days for postage.

I've just done a lot of research on this, while holding my breath......

Hmm, I bed to differ after getting a court summons 5 months after the alleged offence, going to court, explaining and getting 3 points and £125 fine!!!

The court is different. If you were caught by an actual policeman he will have cautioned you at the time negating the need for the NIP. The court will then of set a court date as you had already been notified of intended prosecution.

All that jazz

Assuming the facts stated in your post are correct, I'll bet my house you won't hear anything from it. Speedometers in cars typically read around 10% over so you were already driving at the speed limit more-or-less.

Calm down, forget about it and move on. yes

Passed a camera van in the truck in a 30 limit. Being fully loaded I couldnt be sure my speed hadnt crept up going down the hill towards the camera. Anyways when I'd finished my drop I went back and spoke to the copper in the van (very nice chap gave me a free "speed aware wales" pen!) He was a retired sergeant topping up his pension catching speeders in south wales! After he put down his copy of Which? magazine he told me "limit + 10% + 2mph". He showed off his camera's ability to zoom and catch people nearly a mile away as an old couple zoomed through the 30 zone at 42 chatting away as they sailed past the fully marked vanrolleyes. He also said they can't do you through their windscreen as it corrupts the laser beam, therefore inadmissable as evidence. Sorry for the rambling post. HTH Jim.
