Gents,
Next Monday i'm going to New York for a break, so when i'm there are they any cool tool shops or auto stores worth looking in that aren't too far away?
Would be nice to bring back some additions for the garage biggrin

I always got my tools in out of town malls when I lived in the states, and was a big fan of Craftsman stuff from Sears stores. Really good quality and reasonably priced, my Merc mechanic used their stuff alongside snap-on. I think they have a store in Manhattan you could check out.

There is a Home Despot on 23rd st and another at 59st however, I think for tools you would have more "fun" at a Sears. The closest is at Newport Center Mall in Jersey City. You get there by taking the PATH train from either WTC or 33rd St/6th to Newport/Pavonia station. Not a long trip and pretty easy.

Good luck with the luggage weight allowance on the way back (and security screening of large metal objects)

I would suggest paying for an extra bag of 23kg would be easily lost in the savings made.

OP, you do need to check that the airline doesn't operate a weight concept (ie you pay per kilo, rather than per bag) otherwise as audidoody suggests, you'll be in for a stinker.

absolutely. jersey is the place for this. 33rd street is a bit easier as the wtc station can get a little crowded.
