Video recording
Discussion
I'd like to record my track days going forward, what do you guys recommend?
I've seen the Go-Pro camera, which looks OK, but it seems a bit overpriced for what it is.
Some peoples track day footage has multiple camera angles with rev and speed information, is this all done with one package?
Thanks

Two alternatives
1) Integrated video/data logger package like AIM's Smartycam, Vbox, Chasecam, etc
2) Separate camera (Gopro) and data logger (Racechrono Touchscreen, Qstarz, etc) which are then synchronized together using RaceRender, Trackvision or Dashware software.
Option 2 was much cheaper for me but is a lot more faffing about post tracking.
Thanks for the replies guys
I'd love to have data logging overlay but afraid the combined units are well out of my price range and none of them are HD as far as I can tell.
So it looking likely that a single Go-Pro Hero2 will be the way I had to go.
Although tempted to upgrade to a decent smart phone to try out those apps as they look pretty good!

The Gopro Is excellent.
As for data overlay. We use a smarty cam system on our radicals. But it's £1500.
I have both. Much prefer Gopro. Just bought new Hero2 to add to my original one.As for data overlay. We use a smarty cam system on our radicals. But it's £1500.
Smartycam is HALF that price.... someone mugged you off! unless you mean smartycam and an MXL dash combo?
You have any problems with Vibration with smartycam on Radical? it hates my Westfield... get weird screen wobble
The Contour GPS and Contour+ are great cameras and also have GPS built in.
The GPS is recorded at 2Hz on the Contour GPS and at 4Hz on the Contour+ (2Hz is 2 GPS readings a second)
The cameras come with various mounting options and the lens rotate.
I use a suction cup mount for mine that is used stuck inside the car. you can also stick it to the outside of the car but no track day venues seem to allow this.
Here is a track day video I recently took: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BTJt9uBwrGY
The video and GPS data was imported into Dashware.
