As per the title, if I change the bodywork of a kitcar that is already registered, retaining the chassis, would it have to undergo IVA? Or would the rules apply as if it were a rebody a la Sammio and just need an inspection and MOT?
cheers all

If no-one here can give you a definitive answer (no idea myself), might be worth asking Sylva or Tiger cars / owners. AFAIK the J15 & GTA can be fitted to the Riot & R6, etc, respectively. Whether anyone has, and has done all the paperwork as well is another question...

No not providing you retain sufficient of the kit as registered, viz basically chassis steering & suspension all round or chassis, engine & some of suspension. It's all scored on a points basis, see this thread all the info is in there (tho' there are a few people hurling red herrings about just to distract you!)

Once it a car has been registered once, it is treated the same as any other car, i.e. if it is used as a single donor with an unmodified chassis, the radically altered points system applies just as it would if it was a Herald being used for a Sammio

thanks guys, very useful info, as I'm interested in fabricating a replica which wouldn't pass IVA but
if I can do it on an existing chassis and only need to conform with Construction & Use and MOT it makes it possible scratchchin
