Jaguar XF Sportbrake: official pics and details

These are the first official images and details of the new Jaguar XF Sportbrake

It's the car we've all been waiting for; a Jaguar (car) with enough boot space to humanely fit in a jaguar (cat). Flippant remarks aside, the XF Sportbrake (read: estate in marketing-speak) is a crucial car for Jaguar, allowing it to take on the likes of the Audi A6 Avant, BMW 5 Series touring and Mercedes E-Class estate.

Now usually it's not really our thing to talk about such things as boot space (1675 litres with the seats down), remote-fold levers for the rear seats, an extra 48mm of headroom, or a soft-close tailgate that can be specified with a fully powered open/close functionality, but these things are important on estates. So there we are - we've just mentioned them.

Of perhaps more interest is the self-levelling rear air suspension, or the Adaptive Dynamics System - which continuously monitors the suspension and can adjust damping rates accordingly up to 500 times a second. Or maybe the fact that the XF Sportbrake matches the saloon for rigidity and aerodynamic drag...

As for motive power, from launch the Sportbrake will be diesel only, with the 2.2-litre four-cylinder and two versions of Jaguar's 3.0-litre V6 turbodiesel available - the higher of which will be the 442lb ft, 275hp version.

There is also rumour of a V8 petrol version, but Jag is keeping shtum on that for now...

Need.

Always much preferred big estates to their saloon siblings - especially fast ones!

Looks amazing, but isn't it a bit late? Surely this model shape doesn't have many more years left?

Can't wait to spec the demo.

I'm thinking Premium Luxury S with heated screen, powered tailgate and 20" wheels (unsure which design yet)

Colour - Either Lunar or Stratus Grey with Warm Charcoal leather.

I thought they were going to do a 4wd version. Anyone know anything about this?

The old Aston Martin 'shooting brake' conversions showed the way decades ago, I hope the tailgate lets one sit to watch Polo etc. I agree that 4WD would help the green wellie brigade.
Another good (great?) car from JLR.

If I was fifteen years older, with a wife, a couple of kids and perhaps a dog, this would be top of my list.

But, as has probably been said, what with the new A6 and 5-series, isn't this model a bit long in the tooth to be playing with shooting-brakes?

Still, yes please.

XF AWD due this winter. Hope they hurry up and put the V8 in the shooting brake so we can have it in the USA.

Really great looking car BUT, I cannot stand the DRLs on the facelift XF. They look like a string of lights on a gaudy Christmas tree with the way that they span (and overemphasise) the otherwise rather elegant lower line of the headlamp binnacle.

That aside, I think that this is probably the best looking car in its class. It'll be interesting to see how it fares when we get the chance to drive it.

Are we ever going to get back to the days of 'coupe', 'estate' or 'hatchback' etc?

Looks decent though.
