What happens if you overtrain on one exercise...
Discussion
Over the x number of years I've been weight training, I have tried to mix up the exercises and do as much mirroring as I thought necessary e.g. if I did three sets of curls, I'd ensure that I did 3 sets of triceps dips or lat pulldown or something to balance it all out.
Unfortunately, I've obviously under trained my back and the back of my shoulders and spent too much time bench pressing. I've then gone and lifted something I shouldn't have at my age.
Result = torn ligament in my AC joint on my shoulder. It's not responding to physio particularly well and I'm desperately trying to strengthen the little muscles on the back of the shoulder to take the strain off the joint. Looks as if I'll require a steroid injection into it and then more physio.
Don't do it kids! Push - pull routines are the way forward! Make sure you do one exercise as much as the others.

You will not be getting a steroid injection for a torn ligament, you will need an operation most probably to fix it.Steroids injections are used to bring down Unfortunately, I've obviously under trained my back and the back of my shoulders and spent too much time bench pressing. inflammation so healing can occur.Have you had a scan yet?
It's unlikely to be a training imbalance which has lead to the injury, especially if you've tried to even things out.Either poor form or lifting too heavy.
There's lots of exercises on Youtube for identifying and strengthening the muscles of the rotator cuff. Good Luck.
