In a blatant rip-off of the What car has surprised you by it's speed? thread, what car that you thought would be really quick.. just wasn't?

My car, especially as it only does 30mpg (the same as the faster GTI-6). If it was worth something I'd get rid of it.

Good to see you copied the incorrect use of the apostrophe too.

mkv golf R32

showing its age now, far too many german oil burners and chav vxrs etc can weld themselves to its bumper, hence it was time to go

BMW 325 E46, after driving a 318 for a year thought this would be a lot more exciting, wasn't much quicker tbh!

A guy I know had an E46 320 cabriolet, I by no means expected it to be fast, but it was surprisingly dog slow. My MINI left it for dust without even trying.

Lotus Elise S (Toyota). Great car ruined by awful engine. God knows how much the hacks who lauded it were paid out of Hethel's back door, but it was horribly slow, given the competance of the rest of the package.

It's all very well being able to carry a lot of speed, but if it takes you an age to get up to it, then what's the point? Not being satisfied by being underpowered, it was also one of the roughest engines I've ever experienced.

Audi RS4 and Vauxhall Monaro.

Monaro owner was very upset when he couldn't get past the little red hot hatch he was trying to bully out of the way.

I found the 111R rather underwhelming too. Sounds like a bazzed up Nova and needs merciless thrashing to get anything out of it. It's also a £30+k car with the same engine as a Toyota Corolla...

Not that I expected it to be great, but I drove an astra cc convertible with the 200bhp 2.0 turbo engine. The weight of the car made it feel like a 1.6.

Also, am I allowed to say aston V8 vantage? It was quick, but not quite as quick as I expected.

Also gets my vote. I love the Mk4, still think it's a great cruiser and with the right exhaust it can sound fantastic, but it's a car I really expected more from.

Another car I'd love to own but would probably be disappointed in is the Clio V6. I'd love one just for the experience, but can't help but think that 250bhp and a compromised handling package probably makes it a less than amazing drive.

I got into a little 'play' with one when I had my Alfa 147 Gta. He was alone in his car, I had three people plus a week's worth of luggage. He was also clearly trying, but had to concede to the Alfa's greater poke. Odd, as the bhp figures are the same(ish) and the clio should be lighter.

Audi urquattro.
Ok it was a special car (even today) but just not as especially fast as the legend would suggest.

WTF? What kind of quick were you expecting? Take it you're talking about the B7...

My last two cars have have circa 210 bhp, Saab 9-3 Aero didnt feel much faster than the 150 LPT older model it replaced until I got it remapped, now have a 944 S2, that feels fairly urgent for not that much power in the scheme of things but I think a lot of it is down to anticipation, guess with an RS4 you expect your internal organs to get re-arranged, they are very fast but also fairly refined and heavy, they accelerate very quickly but they are so competent it make it all feel a comparatively mundane perhaps ?

Had a Citroën Picasso as a hire car. I sent it back as I worried for my safety in something so slow

So you got rid of you car because now OTHER cars were as quick? Your car is still as quick as it always was, sounds like you didn't buy a quick enough car in the first place. wink

What are you gonna replace your current car with in a couple of years as by then it'll show IT'S age too... biggrin
