Spotted a car today which I didn't recognise after a bit of googling it turns out it is a Chrysler Delta. vomit

The thing that struck me is that it bucks the current trend of the rear light clusters filling the space between bumper and boot/hatch.
On most new cars if you removed the bumper, lights and tailgate there would be no exterior metal facing the rear.

The only other current cars that I can think of which have lights in the bodywork are the Mini and throwbacks such as a Defender.

Quite a few hatchbacks have the lights between the rear window and the C pillar.

Saw one at the weekend, lot smaller than they looked on TV. Not the prettiest I agree, but so muchmore interesting to look at than a Focus/Golf/Leon, etc etc

True, but there is still not many cars that have lights not next to the tailgate/boot. Rear bumpers these days seem to making up more & more of the back of a car.

Not mainstream ones I suppose, no. Many sports cars have them entirely separate.

For most cars, if you reverse slowly into something you can just pick up a second hand bumper, get it sprayed and put it on.

I imagine that is going to be a whole lot worse for that car, and in times to come, be the death of those as uneconomical to repair.

Aka the Lancia Delta, launched in 2007 and so a 4 year old design when they grafted a Chrysler badge on the front to flog it to us. Fad of the moment in rear design in 2007 perhaps?

ETA: was it the Murano that had the same treatment at the back?

Just about to write the same.

A Lancia Delta with Chrysler badges stuck on.

Not so American after all.

Fiat Brava. Very cheap car with disproportionately 'sexy' mid-panel tail-lights.

What? Not American? But what about their TV ad that goes on about Detroit Metal? Surely you're not saying it's a cynical attempt to flog Italy's horrible leftovers to idiots who for some reason want an American car?

If you look closely there's a seem running below the lights, across the top of the bumper, I don't imagine it's an issue.
