Customs issue for registering my FSO... maybe...
Discussion
Went to DVLA today to register and tax my Polonez, armed with mot, insurance, polish log book, v55/5, money etc. Woman says have I informed customs. I said no, as I didn't import the car. I guessed (wrongly) anything to do with customs would have been sorted by last owner. Will I get stung for it? £500 car from an EU country.
In 2008, I registered a UK-built car that was originally sold new in West Germany in 1983 and had been repatriated to the UK in 2004.
All I needed was a completed V55/5 (? - "application for new registration" DVLA form, might have been V55/C) plus MoT, proof of insurance for the vehicle using the VIN Number, proof of ID and a cheque for first registration (£50 then) plus road tax. They also asked for West German registration documentation - I had one of the two bits of paper (the "fahrzeugbrief", which contains technical details such as tyre size, noise emissions, power output and major dimensions) and they were happy with that but it wasn't essential.
As the car was over 10 years old, this was it - I could even have done it by post
, and they didn't want to see the car.
Your only issue might be that Poland wasn't part of the EU when the car was sold - this is off the top of my head though
