Strange handling
Discussion
Since owning the 3R i havnt really had much time to look into things with the Noble ( iv had my head stuck into the Marcos LM which as been painful & costly:-( ) but with some decent weather here i took the 3R for its MOT yesterday which it past with flying colours :-)Really enjoyed the drive there and on the way back i made a bit or a de-tour which involved a twisty and not so smooth A road, this brought back some memories from last year, It just doesnt seem to like these sort of roads, a bit hard to explain but you are having to really cling onto it? Looking at some of the posts on here & mag reports etc, me thinks somthing isnt right? The plan is to get some Protech shocks from Tux and a full Geo set-up, suppose that will answer a few questions.
The lad who did all the mods on the 3R was BigGriff, just wondering if it as maybe been set-up for track of maybe just that the shocks are getting tired?
Re: the geo set-up, is it best to stick with the standard set-up? if so, can anyone help with the standard settings, Protech Shocks? im presuming there isnt any issues with these? Ime thinking of using these for the Geo set-up http://www.tracktorque.co.uk/about.php i used them last year for the Marcos and found them really good.
Any Thoughts

First thing to check are tyre pressures. I take it you have matching brands on all four corners? What tyres are they?
Inspect the dampers, I assume since you passed the MOT they're not leaking or in poor condition. Are your dampers adjustable? They may be setup too hard for the road.
Again, assume your bushes are all OK as you passed through an MOT...
Could be requiring a simple geo tweak

Tyre pressure OK, Toyo 888's all roundInspect the dampers, I assume since you passed the MOT they're not leaking or in poor condition. Are your dampers adjustable? They may be setup too hard for the road.

I'm sure he won't mind me saying, that BigGriff (Richard) is not so much a "lad" as a "giant of a man"... seriously, I don't know if you met him but he's about 6'4" and must be packing at least 20 stone (in muscle, of course...) I'm sure Richard will have set the car up well, so unless you're of a similar stature I wouldn't be too surprised if it feels a bit "off". My 3R always felt a bit twitchy on back roads - a bit like "skimming over the surface" sometimes - which is why you really do need to keep an eye on things and avoid full power unless you're travelling 100% straight and flat (otherwise you'll find yourself doing pirouettes before you can say turbo-lag).

Thats just it:-) - a bit like "skimming over the surface" it just doesnt feel planted, i did hear that Richard was 20 stone of muscle, ime more like 13st with no muscle :-).A bit lost with Quote:- which is why you really do need to keep an eye on things and avoid full power unless you're travelling 100% straight and flat (otherwise you'll find yourself doing pirouettes before you can say un Quote meaning they are all like it or maybe BigGriff will have had it set up for is stature?

Sounds like the shocks need a refurb (they may not appear to be leaking, but may be terrible damping wise) as "floating" I'm guessing is coming from the rebound not being damped and hence you feeling like you are floating.
Could also be a geo setup issue - I'd start with geo and then get the shocks off and test them properly I think.

I Drove a 3R last week and it had the same feel , quite a bit different to my own car , i,m with Joust on this one pretty sure the dampers were knackered and just not able to control the wheel , but cheapest option to try would be setup ect first .
what tyre pressure's are you running on the 888'S ?
Tux

Could try dropping the rears a touch , i run mine at 20 cold , fronts should be fine . Tux
+1. 27 rear is very firm I have noticed 888s when hot increase a lot in pressure , so could be 33 hot or more so would def be very skittish and also would make the rear jump all over the place on bumpy roads.Run mine on road at 19 rear 17 front
Also worth comparing where you car shocks are set along side another 3R maybe they are set very firm to compensate for the extra weight. along with such high tyre pressure she would be all over the place

I'd check ball joints and general setup as the car should be very planted but does change massivelly if it's not adjusted right.
In fact it can be adjusted to be twitchy because some like it that way, if it's got a little more toe out at the rear than normal it will try to turn in at just the hint of road change lol

Altered the tyre pressures and back to the same road, no noticeable difference, the same front light floaty feeling and this is at 60mph :-( I’m sure as it is our Zafira gsi would give it a run down the same road, As mentioned its fine on smooth roads, show it some camber and dips on the road and its bad Feels really light at the front & constantly correcting the steering), 5paulmv you will know the road Im on about Paul? It’s the Strensall tip road.
I think the way forward is a geo set-up & then take it from there.
