Local Mercedes dealer desperate to sell me an estate car and will knock over £5K off list. Am I mad to buy new?

Considering you can rent one for £1500 deposit and £340 a month doing 12k miles a year you decide and do the maths.

I just can't see how buying a new one cash is worth it at the moment, and if you are going to use finance it will certainly not be as cheap as contract hiring.

Even I have come to this conclusion. The deals on the E220 CDI Executive SE are even better although presumably you need an extended bootlid to accommodate the ridiculous name. £1000 down and £300 a month for 3 years and 30k miles.

The cheapest sport I could find to rent was £385 plus VAT (which as a Limited Co. I cant get back and I become a company car owner and get shafted on tax anway) 6 payments down and 10k miles. Thats £2772 down and £5544 a year for three years. Call it £20k in three years I can buy a vastly better spec with a list of £41.5K for £36k on the road. Will it be worth more than £16 in three years? And what about the scratches and bangs they charge you an arm and a leg for when you try to give it back? It's not a s simple as it might first appear

That's seems a fantastic deal, and the spec of the Executive SE seems pretty good too: proper leather and navigation included.

Just one downside: it seems to have chrome wheels. Times must be tough for drug dealers if they are having to downgrade to an E220CDi... whistle
