So I woke up on Tuesday morning covered in cold sweat with my bed sheets soaked and my throat feeling like aids (not good aids either).

Since then I've been smacked out on lemsip and paracetamol, changing from freezing cold to boiling. I know its just a bug but its annoying me, i never get ill.

Being the health conscious man I am I don't want to miss out on my weekends plans of work and watching the rugby (read, work and getting drunk) so need to find a way to man up and get better. Today is the first day I've actually managed to get out of bed but need to try and find a way of making myself feel a little better, any suggestions?

Stay hydrated and rest I would have thought. No point forcing yourself to do stuff when you are ill, it will just mean you take longer to recover properly.

That. The way to get better quicker is to let your body have the best chance of fighting the bug, keep it fed and watered. Stressing your body doing any significant exercise will just delay things.

I wish I'd taken my own advice from last week. I trained on a cold and now have snot in a cornucopia of colours and a chesty cough.

My advice is:

3 litres of water per day minimum.

OJ - glass of per day

Innocent Smoothie - glass of per day

Multivitamin tab x 1

Soluble vitamin C x 1

Grapes, oranges, apples, bananas to boost energy

Gargle with hot very salty water/TCP (SWMBO swears by it, I can't stand it)/Oraldene to sort the throat.

The above, plus eating well and avoiding alcohol and you've got a good start. Under 30 and manning up is a possibility. As I've sadly discovered, over 30 and the body just laughs in my face and gets iller.

It's an old wives tale to drink a lot when you're ill.Just drink what water you normally do.

Bed or not also won't make much difference, nor will vitamins etc.Nothing will really sffect the time it takes for the virus to run its course.

Take it easy and try not to infect anyone else. wink

I find that a double dose of lemsip helps me to get to work .. Once there, munch cold n flu tablets all day. As to not infecting anyone else, well if I dont turn up at work I dont get paid ... so stuff that !

I am in the same boat. I've completely lost my voice which is making dealing with customers difficult. I'm going to remedy it be jumping into the sea off the coast of scotland for a few hours.

Unless the OP normally sweats buckets in bed, I'd say drinking normally would result in dehydration. Better to pee out the excess and be on the safe side.
