Hi guys,

The battery on my 996 C2 (3.4) needs replacement. It came with a non-OEM Varta when I bought it but after the recent cold spell it that can't even spin the starter anymore after it's sat for a day or two.

I'd like to do the job myself (for the kicks mostly). I called my usual specialist (Paragon) and they recommended a Bosch S5 007 battery however I can't find one on sale anywhere near me. Halfords carry the S5 008, which they recommend for the 996, at a decent price of ~£120 and they can order the 007 (which is normally cheaper!) for around £195. I've seen online shops quote as low as £85 but they don't look too trustworthy and I'm never home to accept deliveries anyway.

Any serious cons to just going with the 008? Alternatively if anyone knows where I can source a 007 in London (preferably west of centre) please let me know.

Try http://www.carparts4less.co.uk/car-battery and plug in your reg no.

I got a Bosch S5010 for my 997 and it was £93.47 and on the doorstep the next day .... wink £35 cheaper than Halfrauds ....

Oh and according to the labels - I came out of my local Euro Car Parts warehouse - but was £15 cheaper than they advertise it for!!!

Try Eurocarparts.

Maybe the battery just needs re-conditioning with a CTEK charger. I thought my 996 battery was dead but it's as good as gold after I brought it back to life...

Cheers guys, fellow PHer at the London forum also recommended Euro Car Parts, they do the exact model I wanted, cheaper than anyone else and have it in stock in a branch near me. Sorted!

I recently just upgraded from a Bosch s3 to a s5 from eurocarparts. I typed service25 in the discount code and got 25% off so it set me back £90 for the s5.
Can't go wrong with ECP.
