Has anybody found a way to stop the cat dragging the waterbowl across the floor? I frequently find it a metre or so away from where it started!

I've tried bigger/heavier bowls, bowls with "sticky" bottoms, and even putting one bown inside another bowl. He just dips a front paw inthere and pulls it. I know it's pretty common behaviour but has anybody found anything which works ?

Not their water bowl but one or other (or both) of ours have taken to dragging their bed around our room while we're asleep. The younger one dragged it right up to the edge beside me and was busy removing the bottom cushion from it which woke me up at about 1.20am this morning.

Got to be honest I was not aware this was common behaviour. Cats often dunk their paws in bowls but not draging them around.

Might be worth investing in a water fountain, would struggle to move one of those around, it's plugged in for a start smile

Have you tried leaving it where the cat wants it?

Why is it being moved?

Never heard of this tbh - paws in it to spill it & play; paws in it to play/fish; toys in it to refresh cat nip; but not being moved.

This. Cats are very sensitive to strange odours so it could trying to move his water out of range?

My cat sticks her paw on the side of the bowl as she drinks. Daft thing.

Mine doesn't have a water bowl, he has his own glass on my bedside table as that is his favourite vessel/location. He's NOT spoilt I promise...

He never used to do it (although does dip a paw in) - I wondered if he's just pawing it and dragging it in the process...

Interesting about the smells though - thinking back it might have happened when we put the dishwasher next to where the food/water is (it used to be the washing machine - we swapped them around).

I will try moving it tomorrow (the bowls, not the dishwasher ;-) )

Ta!

(the only reason I thought it was common, was that my friends cat does the same thing - she tried a water fountain which is something we were thinking of, but he just drags that! Plus we are open plan, are the fountains noisy?)

Is the water bowl anywhere near the litter tray? As a human, I don't take drinks into the bathroom...

My place is open plan, with the fountain about 4' away from where we sit on the couch, you honestly don't notice it after a while, unless the note changes (i.e. low on water, or the top has been dislodged). They are actually pretty quiet, the pump is submerged, so the water filters out quite a bit of any noise it makes.

Plus, the Drinkwell Platinum fountain I have holds 5 litres of water - I can't see any cat dragging that around easily - the weight pushes it down nicely onto rubber feet.

All 3 of my cats have been seen drinking from the mug by my bed! It is thoroughly washed each night. (Only during day they're not in our room at night) I don't know why as there are plenty of water bowls dotted around the house!

Anything stolen from humans is better than that provided for cats!

I suspect also that tapwater that's been standing for a while perhaps loses any taint of chlorine etc.

Their bowls are filled with filtered water and changed daily just like my mug of water. Part of me thinks it's laziness as it's right next to the bed but I've seen them make a bee line for it as soon as they jump on the bed!

Who me ?

Thanks. You've provided me with a possible answer to a question I've been pondering for a while . Outside ,I've got a builders bucket, which fills with rain .When dog & I return from a walk ,he wants out the back, passing the two water bowls in the house to get to the bucket. If I fill one bowl from the filter jug, he ignores the other one.

Ours will drink out of the bath (with one paw on your chest), even when bubble bath is in it, and like to drink out of the toilet if you leave the lid up. Tap water should be better than that redface
