Problems with buying bright coloured cars?
Discussion
My wife is about to order a new S4 avant and quite fancies getting it in metallic red. I like the idea of something a bit different but are there any reasons not to get a bright coloured car. I've heard of following:
1. Potential resale value isuues (due to being less in demand)
2. Colour fade after years in the sunshine (you see some dodgy 20 year old red cars there)
3. I find it hard to believe but heard rumours from a work colleague of BiB playing "snooker" ie making sure they pull over a car of every colour on the table.
Thoughts?

sorry no to the first 2.
if you buy the car in colour that suits it and makes it look right. then resale isn't going to be affected. examples of bad taste would be the mint green met Alfa 147 gta just wrong, or a jewish gold B7 A4 my grandpa used to have.
point 3 I couldn't say. but is it a problem are you on the run from the law?
I have a bright blue modified mk2 golf. not had a problem yet, even when spitting flames. so a standard red audi?

I would hardly say red is something a bit different. Modern paints should be much more fade resistant..anyway, how satisfying would it be to give a faded car a good T cutting...so satisfying I have almost offered to do it for free to strangers faded cars. As for residuals being lower on bright cars....au contraire...if you buy a boring silver, grey, black think how many thousands of others of the same colour will be out there when you come to sell. White cars seem to carry a premium at the moment. I have just gone from owning three silver cars at the same time to a bright yellow Lotus and it looks far better than the dull, or dark colours. Probably depends on the car though.

My car is white. Do they intentionally avoid those then?Go for it, we bought a new Sharan (apologies) in flat red, didnt want to pay extra for the dull metallics that were on offer, all "slates" and "storms", saved £400 and sold very quickly, the guy who bought it spotted it because it was red.
Current Galaxy is "Tango Red", looks great even on a big lump like that.
My 944 is red, the actual shade is known as "Hunde Schwanz rot"

Any shade of green is a disaster on a car come resale time.

What I wonder is what were the people who bought those mint green Boxsters with matching Tree Frog Skin interiors thinking, it never looked good, or those that bought a decent colour and then went for that livid beige interior, not the unobtrusive (but still beige) but the one that is like Arthur Daleys Camel Skin Jacket ?
I think you can still manage to stray from Audi's 57 varieties of Silver couple with a black interior and still have something saleable.
I am perhaps not the best person to take any notice of, I had a Rover BRM and quite liked it, certainly the green with silver bits if not totally sold on the the S an M den interior and orange beak.
