I'm looking to change my car for a bigger vehicle. Going up from a E46 coupe to a 5 series E60 shape.

I hear people are buying E46 coupes but not really sure what people are paying for them?
I don't want to trade so what are my chances of success?? Don't want to buy a motor and be stuck with the other one for 6 months!

What car valuations state £6900, it's a 330Ci. Black/Black colour combo with Harmon/Kardon.

Still popular, right colour and spec, depends on the miles and year of course, and what others are offered for sale, use the completed listings on Ebay to get an idea of what they went for and how many actually sold, though that isn't the most reliable. The way to guarantee a sale is to put it up at 1p with no reserve, but that takes some bottle with a six/seven grand car, I sold an old Bora (petrol) the other day that way and it went for £620, I made £40 or so once the Ebay fees were taken out !

Good pictures are key as is a good description, no txt speak m8 as it makes me envisage "Ray Boy" from Viz, spell check it, no block capitals as I always envisage some large, stupid, mythical creature like a Cyclops typing with one hoof from a manky house on a manky estate.

Sometimes to sell you have to take less than you wanted but don't see your old car as a problem or something to get rid of (unless its a wreck), its someones new car, give them a bit of the experience the original owner had when buying it new, proper presentation.

Thanks for the advice Jacko. That makes good sense!

To repsond to Q above, you're right, I guess with rising costs of fuel, I'm wondering if people are going diesel daft and cars like mine are going by the wayside. Certainly if you listen to some dealers, they'd have you believe that! Just going back to spell check my advert. wink

PS. It's got 73K on the clock so not too high.

To add to J4CKO's advice, list out within the advert all the services it's had, including date, mileage and dealer who did it. If it's had expensive jobs done like cambelt or clutch done then put the dates and mileages in too.

If I were a buyer I'd want to see that kind of detail.

That's the region I am looking for so I'd be satisfied with that, albeit at the higher end!! smile

I spent a very long time trying to find a decent 330 Coupe sport and finally managed to get one at the start of the year. Unfortunately it was an auto and I now wish I had just waited longer and got a manual instead. Therefore I decided to sell it and continue the search for a manual; I have had mine for sale for about 3 weeks now and have dropped the price to £3300 but not even had any calls for it.
As a comparison mine is a 52 reg with 110k, full history, leather etc and is the sport coupe.

I've noticed a bigger discrepancy than ever between trade and retail value on large petrol engined cars. This suggests that traders are struggling to shift them.

As regards a private sale, make sure the car has nothing to hide and is in good clean condition, and price it keenly. Don't ask too much for it and have it hanging around for ages. No such thing as an unsaleable car.

Agree, big petrols are on their way out. Regardless of spec, condition and mileage they are cheap now. I got a cracking deal on my Merc about a year ago. Its been happening for a while now.

Agreed. Obvously I'm up for bartering and I understand people never want to pay what is advertised. Obviously no interest = too high a price, which I don't think it is at the mo. Will keep a close eye though.

FWIW, my e46 330ci sport with fsh and c.39k on the clock, silver with black leather, manual, was valued at£4.4k as p/x not too long ago. If someone offered me a grand more with no faff/haggling I'd probably take it.
Don't take this the wrong way, as I'm saying this partly in jest, but I would argue that you are an example of why the prices are dropping so much! Not sure how much you paid, or what condition its in obviously, but that's low miles and worth a lot more than that. So basically you're not helping!!!! lol irked
