Fuel cells

Have an offer of 2 cheap fuel cells, one is only 10litres, the other 19litres. My car on track manages 8-18mpg, is there even any point in entertaining this idea?

I am not racing but I have done all the work on the car to MSA / FIA standards, so this would just be to keep the race car appearance more than anything, cash could be used on wiring loom instead, and the existing 60litre tank isnt baffled or foam filled or anything but hasnt starved the engine or so far, so not neccessary as such, but it would look cool

It depends, if youd be making the car less safe by bringing the tank into the cabin then I wouldnt fit them - although Id probably still buy them. Are they out of date and beyond manufacturers extension?

If theyll fit behind a firewall then I might be tempted. I have a 944 and the OEM tank is far safer than a fuel cell as the whole cabin is open, so theyd look trick but be a step backwards as far as safety is concerned. If I had a Mk2 Escort then Id snap them up, as a firwall can be bought pre-cut and half an hour with a riveter and some fireproof sealer will see you done.

To confuse things though, youll find that these tanks are probably cheaper than the foam that youd be wanting to fit otherwise...

I think Ill give it a miss, all things considered cost and weight are restrictive so perhaps in the future
