Fuel tank removal
Discussion
Seeing all the pics of chassis refurb porn with their nicely painted fuel tanks, I was wondering how easy it is to get the tank out. Is it only possible with the body lifted? I ask as I would like to paint my tank, but looking at the pics I cannot see how it is possible to remove it with the body in situ.

Yes it can be removed. In simple terms its, exhaust off, drain tank, slacken the tank filler jubilee clip and loosen the pipe, disconnect the fuel pipe and tank sender, unbolt the tank frame and lower the whole assembly. Watch out for the tank flange snagging on the boot stay lower fixing.

As Rob says it is a straightforward job.
You may want to think about treating the inside of your tank as well.
Frosts do a POR 15 fuel tank repair kit which I and a few others have used.

Interestingly despite all the reports of rusty tanks, mine was absolutely spotless inside when I removed it, with just minor rust areas on the outside. You may want to think about treating the inside of your tank as well.

Tank frame was a bit rotten though and needed some repairs.
Also worth checking the rear diff mount while the tank is off.
