GT: Second RSR Tuscan

RSR launch second car amongst a number of debuts this weekend

A number of new drivers are lining up for this weekend's British GT Championship races at Oulton Park.

Recent BTCC star Warren Hughes is set to make a return to the British GT Championship driving for GruppeM Racing in its Porsche 911 GT3-RSR. Hughes will partner Jonathan Cocker as usual driver Tim Sugden is away on ALMS duties in America. It will mark Hughes' return to the British GT Championship having tackled the opening round of the 2000 championship at Thruxton, when he and John Cleland raced a Cirtek Motorsport Porsche to second in class.

Another driver returning to the championship will be Danish racer Allan Simonsen, last seen in the UK in a Veloqx Ferrari 360 in 2002. Last season, however, he headed for Australia and raced in the Nations Cup in Mark Coffey's Ferrari team. He was also one of the stars of the Bathurst 24 Hours in a Lamborghini Diablo last year. This season, he has been racing the ex-Rafanelli Ferrari 550 Maranello for Mark Coffey Racing in the Nations Cup, and won on the streets of Adelaide at the start of the season. However, a number of engine problems have meant that Allan hasn't been able to challenge for the crown. He has, however, signed to drive the second GRM Holden Commodore for the Bathurst 1000kms in October. He will drive Hector Lester's Ferrari in the dailysportscar.com GT Cup category.

A second RSR TVR T400R is expected to make its debut with Jonathan Coleman, who impressed at Castle Combe, lining up with Rob Croydon, whilst Dominic Lesniewski returns to the championship in one of the best seats around - the Tech 9 Motorsport GT Cup Porsche, partnering Adam Sharpe. Lesniewski had a trying time early-season in the Jensen Motorsport Chevrolet Corvette.

Danish Touring Car racer Thomas Serwin will make his BGT debut partnering Lourenco de Veiga in the second DRM Ferrari, whilst former TVR Tuscan champion Michael Caine switches to a Porsche to partner Peter Chambers in GT Cup. Fellow former Tuscan racer Martin Short makes his seasonal debut by partnering Fanny Duchateau in the repainted Noble in GT Cup, Short's Rollcentre team responsible for running the car.

Qualifying and race one take place on Saturday, July 17 at 16:45, whilst Sunday's race begins at 14:10 (depending which timetable you read! )

Good luck to the two RSR T400Rs.

Saw the Castle Combe race two yesterday and Nigel lead the race well. Excellent stuff.

Messers Short and Pullan appear to have parted company. Simon wont be seen in the Noble again this year.

I don't know this for a fact, but judging from the only race I've seen this year (and that was only on TV), it amy have something to do with a rather amateurish mistake at the end of the race in Snetterton.

I seem to remember Mr Pullan being bodiliy removed from the car as he pitted, and being unceremoniously dumped onto the floor, where he was left to look rather sheepish and circumspect.

On a more positive note, it's great to see another TVR T400R joining the fray. What with this, and all the ALMS/Le Mans races also contested by Synergy and Peninsula/Racesport, TVR should start to get enough data and feedback on the car to make it even more competitive. Although compared (worldwide) to the numbers for 'rarri and Porkers, they're still at a distinct disadvantage.

"Messrers Short and Pullan appear to have parted company"....all very amicable. Simon has the opportunity of racing the Porsche that he did so well in the pre Le Mans race, in Europe, and Martin wants to get in the Noble and develop the car into a winning car.

Good job you don't know it for fact, because it isn't!
Fanny Duchataeu was driving the car at the end of the race at Snetterton, so if a mistake was made, it wasn't Simon. And all drivers are 'bodily removed from the car' during pit-stops, its what all teams do to try andget an advantage over the rest of the field.
