I decided to take out the EGR valve on my BMW 320CD last week, it was a pretty easy job and was worth doing, this is what it looked like when i removed it:
I then spent a few hours cleaning it using petrol, soaked it for a while then used a screw driver to scrape away the tough bits and then a brush to get the rest clean.
Once clean it looked like this:
The question i have is how easy is it supposed to be to open the valve, i could not open mine at all so wondering if it is stuck or not?
If it is actually stuck is it worth taking it off again and trying to fix it, will a stuck EGR valve be bad for the car?
Since having done this job last week i have covered about 500 miles and noticed no difference at all.
