FIAT enter Rally GB

Seeking street cred with bright yellow rally cars

Fiat Auto UK has just announced that it will be supporting a three car junior team to contest the Wales Rally GB in September, the UK’s round of the FIA World Rally Championship. The team will comprise three young drivers, all in Fiat Stilo Rally Cup specification cars.

The official Fiat Auto UK entry will be headed by 22-year-old Leon Pesticcio, who will be swapping his usual Punto S1600 seat for a Stilo drive, and will be partnered by Tim Sturla. The pair have been busy so far this year, with forays on the British and Italian National Championships, as well as rounds of the JWRC.

Joining them will be Andrea Perego/Claudio Vischioni, who are favourites for the 2004 Italian Trofeo Stilo championship. They currently lead the series with just two rounds remaining. At 23-years-old, Perego will be making his UK and WRC debut in Wales.

Third team member and leading junior at the halfway point of the 2004 UK Fiat Stilo Rally Cup is Chris Davies. The 19-year-old from Abergavenny joins Fiat Auto UK’s Rally GB team with co-driver and fellow Welshman Nathan Parry, the crew’s entry on the event also being a WRC first. The youngest member of the team, Davies will join Pesticcio in representing Wales on their home ground.

Fiat Auto UK has indicated that it intends to continue its support of UK rally juniors into 2005 through the Fiat Stilo Rally Cup, and a number of possible incentives are currently under consideration.

Yup. They're running the event to SupeRally rules, so they'll be able to re-enter the next day.
