Seems a decent price as long as straight & decent history. Anyone know background of this car before I drive to see it ?

Thanks in advance

Something fishy IMO. I could never find something like that in this part of the woods...

I'd say its about right, forgive me but .....given its got that ghastly interior and its missing the climate control.

I paid £18k a year ago for an SLK55 similar mileage/same year but with all the toys. If you buy it, I promise you wont regret it smile

SLK55 prices are all over the place, I don't think some garages know how to price them, being V8 'guzzlers' so they just want them shifted ASAP. Just make sure the brakes aren't low, roof works, gearbox shifts cleanly.

Agreed regarding the colour scheme though, Red doesn't really go against the Silver IMO.

Anyway, what you should be buying is one with 6 exhausts, they're much faster:

And if you buy that one you will also need to buy a baseball cap and wear it back to front....

Really? I wasn't aware of an image problem associated with this particular model?

"It's the doors and wheels....."

Well wicked, innit bruv?

When I bought my SLK32 AMG it had less than 8000 miles on it and was less than 2 1/2 years old. Yet I paid less than half the original cost price.

I'm still not convinced about the R171 model. There's a very nice SL500 for sale which I've seen, but with the price of petrol having now reached an all-time high......

I had a look at an SLK55 last year-about 6 months after I sold my SLK32AMG.

I could not see any great difference in performance, and although I did not make a back to back comparison my SLK might even have been a bit faster.

Interior plastics looked a bit cheap.

I did think that the SLK55 was a better looking car than the SLK32.

I do not think I would bother looking at one without full MBSH, and also confirmation that it is not due the very expensive B Service.

what are the normal service costs for the AMG and when do they need servicing?

was it this year model that came out of the bad batch? Read somewhere about 2005 model (all slk models not just amy) having issues with gearbox, leaks etc...

OK a bit of research & from here :- http://www.eurocarparts.com/brake-disc

Works out £1320 for a pair of front discs + £130 for pads, then £360 for rear discs + £60 for pads. Nice grand total knocking on £1900 before fitting ..... ouch.

Be very careful regarding discs - they may be for the post-06 SLK which are only 4pot, whereas the earlier models are 6pot with floating discs and as far as I'm aware are only available via Mercedes dealers at silly prices.

Regarding warranty, if the warranty is maintained from new I believe with some haggling you can get a Tier1 for about £1200. However someone on SLKWorld was quoted over £2k recently after buying theirs, and was subject to an inspection at about £300.

In all honesty, I'd just avoid Mercedes dealers - its 1200 for the B-service including plugs - and use a specialist while building a slush fund with what you've saved. There is no way I'd pay 1200 just to change some oil, a few filters, brake fluid and 16 plugs!
