Went to get my hair cut and came back with a bike....

I was a little early for my appointment so thought I would pop into Cash Generator for a bit of a browse.

Ended up buying a Cube Acid, but they could only sell it to me as spares or repair with no warranty due to it being "un-roadworthy".

Thought I'd better ask them what was wrong with it and got the reply " the front brake doesn't work and it has a puncture ".

Paid the man the ticket price, £99.99 and pushed it away. Been for a quick ride and that really is all that was wrong with it apart from a few scratches.

This was my first thought but if i didn't buy it someone else would have and thought i'd take the chance.

I had the same thought. Not sure what proof of ownership you need to give before they take something in?

I may have to pay attention to my local one though if such bargains are around... considering there's one on Ebay at £300 with a day to go...

There was a recent thread on Singletrack where a lad had his Yeti pinched and it turned up in cash converters a month later.
After some good detective work within the forum the police were summoned and he got his bike back!

Treat all bikes as nicked.

As far as I know they have to provide proof of Id and address before they will buy anything from you.

There were quite a few bikes in there to be honest including a very nice Giant.

Presumably them having sold me the bike they should be responsible for the relevant checks.

I saw a bargain in a shop on the high street which might turn out to be to good to be true .thought I'd take a chance on something that will give me many hours of enjoyment. I know you hear stories of such but can't see how cash generators would still be trading if this were the case.

Because most people will just claim on their house insurance. And those that aren't insured probably won't bother checking eBay, Gumtree, cash converters and other pawnshops.
