Federal RS-R are they road legal in Europe?

Can't see why not, the FZ201 is E marked and I'm pretty sure the RSR is to and it have plenty of tread like a normal road tyre.

I think you could potentially be on a very sticky wicket if you were to have an incident whilst driving with them when the manufacturer themselves are claiming its not for use on public roads.

surely an emark/DOT approval means they can be used legally, whether the manufacturer intended it so is another matter...

If your car can pass an MOT with these tyres fitted (which it can) then you can use it in Europe as it meets the regulations of its country of registration (UK) and we are a part of Europe.

MOT doesn't equal roadworthiness.

Lots of trackday tyres like Pirelli Pilot Cup and 888's are lethal when raining, but they are still road legal and can be used in any EU country.

Agreed but as they meet MOT standards they are legal in any country in Europe, if bald then of course they are not in a roadworthy condition, that is different from a new tyre being legal for road use.
