Hi

I'm thinking about buying a TVR Cerebra 4.2. The one I've seen has 43000 miles and is £18,995.

Interested to hear opinions on whether this is a good price and how reliable a car with such high milage would be - likely problems etc

Also i am concerned about the fuel consumption as i currently drive a lotus which has very low fuel consumption. Can anyone advise me?

Thanks!
Tomelok

You could park 2 cars next to each other with the same build date, mileage, specification, etc, etc, and chances are the 2 cars will be completely different, one may have done all it's miles round Silverstone and been serviced on the cheap, the other may have only come out on dry Sundays in summer months, one may be a dog the other a peach, and not always in the way you'd expect
If you know nothing about Cerberas spend the weekend reading every 'I'm thinking of buying' thread on here, go and have a word with whoever your local dealer is, pop along to your local TVRCC meeting and talk to owners, and go and look at a few cars

Mileage shouldnt neccesarily put you off, these cars like being used.

A 40,000 miler could be a better car than a 14,000 miler at the same age.

As for fuel, count on around 15mpg, anything more is a bonus...

Has it had a 4.5 clutch upgrade? cos people say early 4.2 clutches you cant get anymore and them you need a 4.5 and it costs a bit

I'm thinking this may not be the car for you.

There's lots of advice on this forum - do a search a bit of reading. Then buy on condition - and take time to consider how the previous owner(s) have looked after the car.

As for absolute fuel consumption figures - I've never worked it out: fill it up when it reaches 1/4 full!

Full tank - £45 gets me 200-250 miles.
Every Cerb is different!!
Try lots before picking one.

My old 4.2 is for sale at Dream Machines (Sussex)- thoroughly looked after and not abused at all. Right in your budget and less than 20k miles. 1996 P, Chianti Starmist, Chianti Christus carpets, Grey and Burgundy 1/2 hide. To drive it is to believe it.....
Ask for ben or Richard and tell them Ian sent you....
