Tyres for 997 (Gen 1) C4S
Discussion
I'll be needing some new boots for my car soon and wondered if there had been any developments in tyre availability for my car?
Last time Michelin Pilot Sport 2's were in short supply, so I ended up with Bridgestones, but I don't rate them quite as highly.
I know the Michelin Pilot Super Sport is now available, but unless someone can tell me differently, we are still waiting for 'N' rated versions...??
Failing that, anyone know of any special offers on tyres?
Thanks

If not under warranty fit SuperSports, no better tyre!
Otherwise fit PS2's as they are available.
My car is under warranty, so non N-rated tyres are not an option.Otherwise fit PS2's as they are available.
I've probably got a month or two left in the current tyres, so hope that the approval for the SuperSports can't be too fair away!

Just fit supersports, no dealer or Porsche is going to refuse a warranty claim because you have supersports on,
1) It's not up to the dealer2) The warranty terms are the warranty terms - why pay for a warranty and then risk voiding that warranty (regardless of whether fitting different tyres could realistically affect other parts or not).

Part of the test for extending the warranty is to have N rated tyres all round. They may not decline a claim on an existing warranty (depends if it's a new car warranty, or extended, and how lucky you are), but they are under no obligation to extend it at renewal.Bad idea if you want to keep a warranty on the car. Period.
Probably won't help, but "blackcircles" have the PS2s in stock - and many other internet providers.
I just got mine fitted a 2-3wks ago on my 997.1RS and they work wonders: just got back from a 2day trip to Paris: came back under heavy rain the whole way: averaged 76mph over the whole 875miles trip
Don't be cheap in trying to get a bargain, save 50GBP: get N-rated they are Porsche approved...safety first!

I don't have any belief that non N-rated tyres are unsafe, and I'm sceptical that the N-rated tyres are that different to the non N-rated versions. However, for warranty reasons, they are essential.

Off on a very slight tangent, still in relation to tyres.....
My better half has just bought a 2000 2.7 Boxster and it needs tyres.
I know it 'should' have 'N' tyres but is it really that critical? If the concencious is that anything but N's and it'll be a hedge seeking missile then that'll be what it gets but identical size quality tyres give about £150 a set saving.
Safety is always the prime objective but she's not exactly a trackday queen......are they worth it?

If you don't have the Porsche extended warraty then you shouldn't have any problems. My better half has just bought a 2000 2.7 Boxster and it needs tyres.

Oh it's a long way from any warranty.

Why not fit Continental Sport Contact 3?
My price comparison was based on Conties.
If there's a safety issue or a measurable performance advantage then I'd go for 'N's' but if it's just a 'Porsche Tax' then 'normal' quality rubber it is.
