We viewed a Ford Focus tdci for my wife this afternoon and all looked good and it drove really well so we payed a deposit to go back tomorrow to pay for it.

It is a 5dr hatch 1.8 tdci Zetec.

The problem is I have just done a car check and while everything is fine regards, stolen, scrapped or plate changed etc the model is different.

It comes up as a 1.8 td di saloon that was imported. Same colour.

All the other checks seem ok, the mileage seems to be ok, last check was three years ago with 30k less mileage.

Could this just be an error on registration?

Cheers,
Paul

Maybe worth checking the MOT history online?
what does the V5 say the car is re: Model/import etc? It could well be a mistake during registration but worth making sure your covered smile

I bought an audi A3 1.9 Tdi SE a few years ago from auction. It was an import and the V5 reg doc stated that it was an Audi A3 1.8 diesel, and not the 1.9 Tdi se that it obviously was.

I wrote to the DVLA and informed them that V5 was wrong and they corrected the mistake and sent a new V5. Presumably the model was wrongly stated on the import papers.

We haven't got the V5 as I didn't ask to see it.

The two different reports I have paid for say everything is ok, just completely the wrong model. Will have to check tomorrow.

The TDCI and the TDDI were both used in Ford focuses, the TDCI being the more refined but highly strung version fitted to later cars.

Sounds like the same thing. Where would it likely to have been imported from being right hand drive?

It's deffo the common rail. It's taxed as that as well.

It's really quiet and quite a punchy engine.

Sounds like it must be a DVLA error then. The TDDI makes a racket akin to a skeleton wking in a filing cabinet.

Yeah, I remember the late Escort I borrowed for a while.

It's going to be a problem with insurance this.

We have told them what model it actually is and the reg number and have the policy starting tomorrow. Nothing has been said regarding import. So I am unsure?

It's possible it is a parallel import i.e. UK spec car but imported by dealer/private individual rather than the manufacturer.

This is the case with some Renault Clio V6s in the UK. It doesn't affect insurance providing it is a UK spec car and it was declared new in the UK but it would be best to inform your insurance company.
