MK2 Mondeo on veg oil

I used to run a Citroen Zx on used veg oil, and I was wondering wether a MK2 Mondeo would run on it.

I know it's not possible with every diesel.

The reason it appeals to me is because my mother is the head cook in an old people's home, and they throw away 100 litres a week of used oil

If it's running common rail injection then probably not a good idea. That's not to say no one has done it but you are better sticking to ones with conventional injection pumps.

I used to run veg oil in a 1997 Escort diesel, which I believe will probably have the same (gutless) engine. It generally worked fine in the summer with a 75% veg to 25% diesel ratio, but during the winter it was down to 30% veg as it couldn't handle the thicker stuff.

AFIK not if its a TDCi

Direct injection should be ok

Common rail NO

And as you have done it before you should know.

When switching for the first time its a good idea to carry box
of spare fuel filters and the tools to change em because the oil
will drag every bit of muck n gunge in the fuel system through
and clog up the filter. Been there done that got the t-shirt
switched on a 200tdi discovery a few years ago and went through
6 fuel filters in a week the 7th lasted over a year till i sold it on.

Is there any particular reason it has to be a Mondeo? If I was running a car on veg oil I'd get a Merc 190e diesel.

My main problem is, that I don't know if a MK2 uses common rail or not

Mark 2 is the facelifted mark 1 isn't it, N plate to Y or something, the one with the fish front end?

Pretty sure they all had old school 1.8TD motors. Boomy and gutless but pretty long lasting.

Yeah that's the one. Slightly agricultural by today's standards but reliable.

Its got a Lucas pump which makes it a no no, but I have heard of people running them on it. No good single tanked but fit a heat exhanger and run it twin tanked it will be ok.

If you are anywhere near Herts I will have any spare oil of you and help with the conversion! Alternatively stick it on ebay goes for 50p a litre.
