A new company car for 007...
Discussion
Don't worry, as far as I know 007 will still be driving an Aston Martin in the upcoming Bond film but if MI6 were looking to reduce costs, after all a £200k Aston Martin is a bit OTT and a 6-litre V12 not very environmentally responsible and let's face us his success rate at returning cars unscathed is not good, what car should they give him? Lets put on a £50k limit and something that must be available new, so it can be replaced like-for-like when it inevitably gets destroyed. It must be relatively discrete and fast enough to chase/outrun the bad guys.
I'm really struggling to come up with an alternative. As far as "British" cars go, Land Rovers are too slow, everyone knows the bad guys drive Jaguars, a Ford or Vauxhall is just wrong and Morgans/Caterhams/Westfields don't have enough room for Q-branch gadgets!
Something Italian or French doesn't seem quite right and neither does American, Korean or Japanese for that matter (I think a GTR is now over £50k anyway). That pretty much leaves German or Swedish. In general, although not necessarily in Bond films, the bad guys drive Mercedes so they are out, I know Bond's company car used to be a BMW but that never quite sat right for me (I guess an M3 or M5 might do the job but probably too expensive and I'm sure a mapped 335/535d is quite quick but come on, you can't save the world in a diesel! How about an Audi RS3 or a TT RS? Maybe but perhaps a bit predictable.
It's a shame that Saab has gone, as this would probably be quite a fit. The new 9-5 was a great looking car IMHO (I would love one), although by all accounts, Saab didn't get enough time to fully develop it (it would be a bit embarassing if a wheel fell off during a chase)! I guess that it would have to be a Saab 9-3 Aero then but how could it be replaced like-for-like after being destroyed?
Surprisingly this leaves us with Volvo. I have actually been an admirer of Volvo styling since the 850 (handsome in a square-jawed kind of way), although sadly the recently facelifted models look a bit droopy at the front. The old S60 was a handsome looking car and fast too in (S60R?) form. The C30 T5 might be a good shout but probably not fast enough in standard form. It would have to be the fire-breathing Polestar version as tested on TG then but Volvo haven't committed to building it yet, so you couldn't just get another one if it got destroyed!
So, if MI6 decided that they couldn't afford to lose a DBS every mission, what should 007's new company motor be?

Surely a Jag? An XF would provide the requisite blend of refinement and thuggishness, and the 2.2 diesel is pretty cheap too...
Wouldnt that be sacrilege though? Epic car chase, helicopter gun ships trying to blast 007 from all angles as he races through the streets of some far flung city in a diesel?Edited by Regiment on Sunday 4th March 12:58
[quote=Matt UK]Saab? Volovo?? Is James Bond a mid-level accountant now?
Well if you remember, the first car that the new Bond drove in Casino Royale was a Mondeo and he drove a BMW 750iL in Tomorrow Never Dies which is a top-level accountants car! I'm thinking a fast Saab/Volvo might provide the iron fist in the velvet glove that is required, although not an estate as you don't want him looking like a traffic officer!
